2. TAE40110 – Certificate IV Training and Assessment
OVERVIEW
This qualification specifies the competencies required to deliver training in an
industry area or area of subject matter expertise, and to conduct competency-based
assessment in a range of contexts. The course is divided into the workshop clusters listed
below. These may be undertaken consecutively, or broken down into the individual
clusters with attendance at any of the Trainwest venues.
Cluster 1: Learning Design
This cluster typically applies to a trainer or facilitator who designs or develops learning
programs. It assumes that the person is working from a pre-defined training product, such
as a training package or accredited course, and applying that product to meet client
needs. They may have responsibility to provide guidance or to delegate aspects of these
tasks to others. This cluster also applies to people who are making the transition from
being a team member, to taking responsibility for the work and performance of others.
As such it is important that trainers and assessors model good practice, professionalism
and confidently represent their organisation
Cluster 2: Delivery and Facilitation
This cluster supports a wide range of applications across any workplace setting and so
can be used by any organisation. Its use is not restricted to training organisations. The
person may be working from a learning program developed by someone else, and
structuring the learning around that program. These units typically apply to a person
working as an entry level trainer, teacher or facilitator, team leader or workplace
supervisor, or any employee responsible for guiding learning through work.
Cluster 3: Assessment
This cluster typically applies to assessors and workplace supervisors with assessment
planning responsibilities; and trainers or other assessors responsibilities for planning
assessment, including RPL. The cluster is suitable for those with an existing assessment
strategy which documents the overall framework for assessment. The cluster also applies
to those participating in assessment validation. It does not address leading the process
