2391-10 Synopsis Rationale for City & Guilds 2391-10 Three-Day Course The City & Guilds 2391-10 course for electricians provides a comprehensive review of the latest edition of the wiring regulations (BS7671:2008, 17th Edition) with practical demonstrations. This qualification is intended for experienced personnel working in the electrical industry. Although City & Guilds does not state formal candidate entry requirements, the qualification is not intended for non-qualified electricians and/or those who do not have experience in inspecting, testing and certifying electrical installations. Candidates without this experience should seriously consider undertaking the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification, 2392-10, as well as obtaining industry experience. It is also strongly recommended that candidates have achieved either the City & Guilds 2382 Certificate in The Requirements for Electrical Installations, BS 7671:2008, or similar qualifications where candidates have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the 17th edition wiring regulations. The 2½-hour written exam is set and marked by City & Guilds. It will be run by Trans-Euro from 18:00 onwards on a date set by City & Guilds. The 4-hour practical exam is conducted one-to-one between the Assessor and each candidate, at a time to be arranged when mutually convenient. The format and content of this is set by City & Guilds. It can be undertaken before or after the written exam. Candidates are expected to bring their own, up-to-date, copies of: • The IET On-Site Guide. • BS7671 (the “Wiring Regs”). • IET Guidance Note 3, Inspection & Testing. Although there will be tools and test equipment available, it is preferable that candidates bring their own as well. Course Framework The course is divided into 4 basic sections: • Legislation. • Overview of BS7671. • Inspection & Testing Theory. • Practical demonstrations. Opportunities will be provided during the course, and with homework, to practise exam technique. The major documents that need to be studied thoroughly are BS 7671 and the IET Guidance Note 3, supported by the IET On-Site Guide. These documents will be constantly referred to and used throughout the course. It cannot be stressed too highly that candidates require a thorough working knowledge of these documents in order to pass the closed-book exam and the practical assessment. 2391-10 Synopsis Administrative Arrangements The course, the written exam and the practical assessment are normally held at Trans-Euro’s premises at 186 Watling Street, Towcester, but the location can be at client premises by prior arrangement. Normal times of attendance are from 09:00 to 17:00, with lunch from 12:15 to 13:00. Refreshment breaks are taken as necessary during the mornings and afternoons. Towcester is centrally placed and is conveniently accessible by road, rail and air. Accommodation and parking are easily arranged. Full details are available from the Course Secretary. Participants with special needs should advise the Course Secretary 21 days before the start of the course. Safety Warning Note that the Trans-Euro emergency assembly area is the Magistrate’s Court car park, across the main A5 Watling Street. This is a busy trunk road therefore extreme caution is required. Equal Opportunities Trans-Euro supports equal opportunities in education, training and employment, and takes positive action to achieve this. We are committed to giving delegates who want to gain an award an equal opportunity of achieving it irrespective of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, physical abilities, learning capabilities, eyesight, hearing etc in line with current UK legislation and EU directives. Delegates with impairment(s) should make their requirements known in advance of booking courses in order to provide time for specialised staff external to the Centre to be made available to assist and for additional exam time to be sought where appropriate, eg for dyslexic or deaf delegates. The formal, detailed, Trans-Euro Equal Opportunities Policy statement is available on request, held by the Course Secretary. Trans-Euro Staff The following Trans-Euro staff are involved with running the 2391-10 course: • Course Tutor • Course Assessor • Invigilator • Course Secretary • Internal Verifier • Quality Assurance Coordinator Version: Issue 3.1 Page 4 of 10 © Trans-Euro Engineering Services Ltd. 2391-10 Synopsis Complaints and Appeals Any complaint or appeal should be made in the first instance direct to the Trans-Euro employee involved. It should be escalated to the assessor or internal verifier/quality assurance coordinator if satisfaction is not obtained. City & Guilds will not accept complaints or appeals made directly to them unless this process has been exhausted. The full company Appeals Policy is available on request from the Centre Secretary. Disclaimer Achieving the full C&G 2391-10 qualification does not provide any guarantee of workmanship, performance, quality or status of the candidate during future endeavours such as plying his/her trade, applying for membership/enrolment of trade bodies/institutions, or for job seeking etc Data Protection Any personal information Trans-Euro holds will only be used in the context of the business we conduct with the candidate. This information comprises the candidate’s name, date of birth, sex, employer and contact details.
