2. Matthew 8:23-27 New Living Translation (NLT)
• 23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake
with his disciples. 24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake,
with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save
us! We’re going to drown!”
• 26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little
faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and
suddenly there was a great calm.
• 27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked.
“Even the winds and waves obey him!”
4. Sea of Galilee
•Treacherous
•680 feet below sea level
•Surrounded by steep hills and mountains
•Create no ordinary storms – SEISMOS
•Strong as earthquake
•Disciples were mostly fishermen
5. Before the Storm
• Gave the sermon on the mount
• Large crowds followed him (8:1)
• Healed a man with leprosy, young servant of Roman
officer, Peter’s mother-in-law, He healed all the sick
people
6. •He wanted to withdraw and rest
•He instructed the disciples to cross to the other
side of the lake
7. 3 Lessons
• There is no STORMPROOF life for all believers
• KNOW who is with you in a storm
• There is no STORM that Jesus cannot calm
8. NO STORMPROOF LIFE
•The disciples have been with Jesus
•It was Jesus who asked them to cross the lake –
He was not surprised by the storm!
•What storms have you encountered?
9. Purpose
•Jesus allows storms to come our way
•Grand Design to build our faith and our
character
•All work was done by Jesus – all He asks is
our faith
10. Know Who is with You
•Disciples are aware Jesus is with them, but do
not KNOW what HE can do
•In a storm, we panic and forget about our BIG
GOD!
•Prepare to KNOW HIM well in calmer seas
11. •Remember the first time you rode a bike,
took an airplane, etc…
•You know the experience of others, NOW
TRY! Faith Building Exercise
12. No Storm that Jesus cannot calm
•How? He was sleeping!
•We ALWAYS feel alone in tough situations,
even if we know Jesus is with us
•THE ISSUE – We do not know what Jesus can
do!
•THINK – Why was Jesus sleeping?
13. Most problems are solved by asking
•The disciples simply asked and Jesus obliged
•We should always think that God is bigger than
our challenges
•When you have done your best and failed, God
can now start to bless…
15. Storm Proof your Life
•Always acknowledge that God is with us in the
good and bad times
•Seek Mature Christians and mentor younger
ones
•Apply God’s Word to your situation
