Health & Physical Education?

2.  PDHPE enables children to lead a healthy,
active and happy lifestyle and become a
responsible member of society.
 PDHPE teaches students to develop positive
relationships, self esteem and decision
making skills through the use of play in
games and sports.
 Students become physically active, reducing
the prevalence of childhood obesity and
related conditions, such as diabetes.

3.  Students who participate in regular physical
activity generally have:
 Improved skeletal development
 Strong bones, muscles and joints
 Increased energy levels
 Decreased risk of becoming overweight or obese
 Decreased risk of associated problems such as
diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular
problems

4.  Students who participate in regular physical
activity have:
 Improved mood: physical activity stimulates
endorphin release in the brain, leaving you
feeling happier and more relaxed
 Improved sleep
 Reduced stress levels
 FUN! Children enjoy being active and playing
games with their friends.

5.  Students are also learning about:
 Relationships
 Valuing self and others
 Personal health choices & informed decision
making
 Nutrition
 Growth and development
 Cognitive and emotional growth
 Living and learning in a safe and secure
environment

6.  PDHPE is such an important component of
your child’s life and can have a major impact
on their future lives as healthy, happy adults
 For this reason, collaboration between
parents and teachers is crucial to foster
students enjoyment in physical development,
health and physical education
 What can you do?
 Encourage your child to be physically active
 Foster their enjoyment in sports
 Participate in physical activity with your child
 Discuss health and education with your child at
home and encourage healthy decision making!
