1. Using LDS Art in Primary-Sharing Time Ideas
Preparing sharing time can be quite intimidating. It seems simple enough to stand up in front of a group
of children and teach them a gospel principle, however, this can be one of the hardest things that an
individual might do in the Mormon church. Children are very visual and art can be a great way to express
ideas, especially when it deals with things of a historical nature. Many of the biblical stories are
thousands of years old and to place them into modern context can be quite difficult, however, the
church has not left you alone. At your local distribution center, if you live in Utah or Idaho or near an LDS
temple, you can find lots of LDS art that will benefit your primary sharing time. If you do not live near a
distribution center you can find the art work on the church's website as well. Most of the LDS art can be
found in your chapel library or primary closet without cost. Most chapels are equipped with countless
pieces of artwork.

The church recently released an old Testament DVD that contains videos, art, talks, and quotes which is
a great resource, this may be found in your chapel library. If your ward meetinghouse does not have it
you can contact your ward or stake librarian and request that your chapel obtain a copy from the church
distribution center.
Showing a picture allows younger children to get involved by allowing them to point out objects in the
picture. Older children are harder to please. Sometimes playing matching games or using pictures to
help the children learn songs can be quite effective. Taking copies of certain art and then cutting them
into puzzle pieces and having the children take turns putting puzzles together works well. You might
want to consider laminating them and then donating the puzzle to your primary for future use.
LDS art is so important that the church encourages you to use it. Be careful though, because the church
wants members to minimize costs. So don't break the bank when investing in LDS art for sharing time.
The church also encourages members to try to use mostly church approved art. The main key is to
follow the spirit. Doing creative things and being prepared will help you to be able to have fun things for
the children to participate in, instead of playing hangman to fill up time.
