as “The greatest novelist of the Victorian
period and the creator of some of the
world's most memorable fictional

period. He was born on the 7 th of February
1812 in Landport, Portsmouth, England and
died on the 9th of June 1870 (aged 58) at
Gad's Hill Place, Higham, Kent, England
