1. AN OVERVIEW OF THE BVSW AVID PROGRAM
WHAT IS AVID?
AVID has helped me in many ways! For
example I think more about my future and
how I can plan ahead for success! It has
kept me on top of my schoolwork, helped
me take notes on EVERYTHING, and most
importantly it challenges me to do my best!

3. WHAT IS AVID?
• It is the ultimate College
Readiness Course
• Student Motivation for Success
• Organization
• Self-Advocacy
• Collaboration
• Confidence
• Reading and Writing Skills
Student success is dependent on individual
determination
Avid has taught
me to be a
more productive
student and to
take some
awesome notes!
These notes
really help me
with studying
and getting
good grades!
4. WHAT AVID IS NOT…
• A remedial class
• Study Hall
• An easy “A”
• A quick fix – it is a long-term process
• For students who lack the desire to pursue honors
and AP courses
Students are responsible for identifying
their OWN weaknesses and working to
improve them
5. AVID EXPECTATIONS
• Organization (Binder)
• Note Taking Skills (Cornell Notes)
• Self-Advocacy (Tutorials and Classroom
Engagement)
• MOST IMPORTANTLY- A willingness to grow!
@MilkyWilki: AVID is the
backbone of my high school
life.... family, good grades, and
determination
6. AVID TIMELINE
(IT’S A FOUR YEAR PROCESS)
• Freshmen Year:
• Acquiring the skills
• Sophomore Year:
• Refining skills and applying
them to a more rigorous schedule
• Junior Year:
• ACT preparation, college research
• Senior Year:
• College essays, applying for scholarships and colleges
It's a ton of fun
getting to know
people in your
grade you'll be
with all during high
school!!☺ and you
also get out of
school because of
college visits
7. FOR YOUR STUDENT TO BE
SUCCESSFUL…
• It must be his/her decision, not mom’s or dad’s.
Statistics show that the only successful AVID student
is the one who personally CHOOSES to do it.
• He/she must understand that AVID is not a
remediation class. The class is designed to push
students academically who have the drive to do so.
We are really a family
We help each other like no other
Everyone here is like my brother
And Ostroski acts like the
mother
