E readers project
1. E-readers project 2010-11 4 readers at each campus Medway – preloaded with 2 pharmacy titles and loaned to 2 students Avery Hill loaned to ILS staff Greenwich loaned to ILS staff and 3 Humanities students
2. What do people like Light & portable (Kindle) Compact Ability to include own PDFs and documents Touchscreen & notes on the Sony Kindle Store is good Good battery life Easy to use Saves carrying print books around
3. Issues Too expensive E-ink only available in black & white Clunky menus (BeBook, Sony) Formats Amazon uses proprietary ePub University e-books cannot be downloaded to e-readers No bookstore (BeBook) Core texts not available
4. Brief findings Preference was for both print and electronic Functionality issues with different devices for different users Not enough content to preload devices for loan & time consuming Provide more netbooks instead Use iPadfor roaming Feedback info about e-book availability of reading list titles to academics
