This document discusses decision making and critical thinking. It provides definitions of decision making as identifying and choosing alternatives based on preferences and values. Decision making aims to reduce uncertainty about options to allow for reasonable choice. Factors that influence decision making are also outlined, including information, options, consequences, and time. The document then discusses individual decision making styles and how groups make decisions, manage conflict, and feel about outcomes. Critical thinking is presented as an important process for decision making. Readers are tasked with applying critical thinking using Bloom's Taxonomy to reflect on a video and how its concepts may influence their career decisions and generate questions.
3. Decision Making… Definitions
1. Decision making is the study of identifying and choosing alternatives
based on the values and preferences of the decision maker. Making a
decision implies that there are alternative choices to be considered, and in such
a case we want not only to identify as many of these alternatives as possible
but to choose the one that best fits with our goals, desires, lifestyle, values, and
so on.
2. Decision making is the process of sufficiently reducing uncertainty and
doubt about alternatives to allow a reasonable choice to be made from
among them. This definition stresses the information gathering function of
decision making. It should be noted here that uncertainty is reduced rather than
eliminated. Very few decisions are made with absolute certainty because
complete knowledge about all the alternatives is seldom possible. Thus, every
decision involves a certain amount of risk.

6. How Did Your Group Survive?
• How were decisions made?
• Who influenced the decisions and how?
• How was conflict managed?
• How did people feel about the decisions?
• How satisfied was each person with the decision?’
• How would your individual decision have differed
from the group decision? Did you compromise?
7. Universal
Factors
• Information
• Options
• Consequences
• Time
E.g. What do I need to do to make a decision
about my major or degree options?
What do I need to make myself feel good
about this decision?
11. Blog Post – Due 11/14 before Class
Let's apply your critical thinking skills using Bloom's
Thinking Taxonomy and Thinking Verbs (handout
given in class) to a 200 word blog post as you reflect on
the content of the Did You Know? 3.0 Video. What do
you think about the facts presented in this video?
How will some of these concepts impact your future
major/career decisions? What questions or thoughts
do you have after watching this video? Where might
you go learn about more information about the facts
presented in this video that are relevant to you?
