Changes in the Internet Speed from 1983 to 2018
Some of the most notable changes you might have
noticed.
1. Social Media: Social media is now a major platform
for communication and advertising. It’s where we
express ourselves and where we find out about what’s
going on in the world!
2. Voice Control: The use of voice control is becoming
more and more popular as time progresses. It’s even
predicted that by 2020, half of all households will own a
voice-activated device, such as Google Home or Amazon
Echo!
3. Online Shopping: Online shopping was once just for
those who were technologically savvy. Nowadays, it's
normal to order your favourite things from home using
just your phone! There are also apps like Instacart or
Door Dash that.
4. The increase in speed is due to competition between
different companies that want their service to be faster
than others. With more and more people using the
internet every day, there will continue to be an increase
in speed for this technology.
The internet has a lot of changes in the last couple of decades.
If you compare the speed in 2000 to the one we have now, there is a
drastic difference in between. The internet speed in 2000 was 0.07
MB/s with the average download speed being 3 KB/s.
In 2017, its 100x faster at 8 MB/s and with an average download speed
of 10 MB/s.

important device for accessing
the internet and in 2020,
significantly more people
identified smartphones as their
most important device compared
to laptops or desktop computers.
As phones continue to improve
with displays and mobile data
infrastructure, they are
consuming more data than ever
before. From 2015-2018
smartphone usage increased from
7.29 million gigabytes to 211
million gigabytes of data
consumed per. Despite this
increase, service providers have
seen no change in revenue
generated from these services
since 2010 - earning 1.73 billion
British pounds which was exactly
what it earned back then!
4G currently offers the fastest means of downloading data with a mobile device, but 5G
will blow it out of the water in just a few years. Once 5G devices are more widely
available and affordable, 155 million subscribers can be expected in Western Europe by

Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on consumer behaviour
The majority of people who were infected with
covid 19, made a living trading in virtual items,
and this led to them not being able to purchase
goods and services which were physical in nature.
For example: food, water or other products that
people would need in order to survive and not die
due to starvation or dehydration.
Many people are now spending less because they
feel as though they do not have the money to
spend on anything other than necessities. In some
cases, this new behaviour has been a positive
change as some people have been able to spend
more time on their self-care practices such as
exercise and healthy eating - both of which have
been shown to help reduce stress levels. On the
other hand, some people have started
overspending as a way to cope with their
increased feelings of isolation and loneliness that
come from being stuck at home for long periods
of time without human contact.
The pandemic has had a major impact on consumer behaviour
and their purchasing choices.
