What is  Habitat for Humanity? Presented by Nicole Bouley and Mark Strom
The History of Habitat International Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller 	(NOT Jimmy Carter!) Affiliates in all 50 states and over 100 countries Over 1,500,000 people sheltered worldwide Holistic approach to affordable housing solutions Building Renovating Advocating Educating
Myth:  Habitat for Humanity gives away houses for FREE. Truth:  Habitat for Humanity offers affordable housing and no-interest loans to qualified applicants.
Three Qualifying Factors for Habitat Applicants: Demonstration of need  Ability to pay Willing to partner
Habitat doesn’t just build houses.. -In response to the bursting of the housing bubble, Habitat has purchased and renovated foreclosed properties to rehabilitate and sell to qualifying Habitat applicants.   ,[object Object],- To help prevent foreclosures, Habitat also offers  a Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention program.
A retail chain that sells surplus and slightly used construction materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.  Proceeds fromReStore help fund many Habitat projects.
Our chapter’s local affiliate Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity receives600applications & places50families in new homes every year. Started in 1985 and is now one of the top 5 US affiliates

Volunteer with our chapter Various volunteer opportunities throughout the year Primarily full-day participation on Saturdays, occasional weeknight events You could be: Building at a Habitat house site for the day Constructing wood house frames at the Habitat Panel Plant Assisting other organizations in the Twin Cities, such as People Serving People
Upcoming Volunteer Events September 17th: Youth Link 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. September 24th: Habitat Landscaping Project 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. October 1st: A Brush with Kindness 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. October 8th: Habitat House Build 8:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Educational overnight event to promote awareness of the poverty situation in the Twin Cities Cardboard shanty-building contest Speakers, fun activities, and a small service project (making tie fleece blankets) Dinner from French Meadow Bakery & Cafe and breakfast from Bruegger’s Bagels Questions?
