Top 5 Tips to Maximize Magento Using Promotion Tools
Tip #1:  Automatic updates of catalog price rules. If you have catalog price rules saved in Magento they still need to be applied daily. Rather than do it manually each day, you should set up your cron.php file  located in the Magento root folder to run periodically. This will enable Magento to update the special prices automatically. A step-by-step tutorial on setting up cron.php is posted in the wiki:  www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/how_to/how_to_setup_a_cron_job
Tip #2:  Magento automatically removes and restores tier prices that are higher than the special price for that product.
Tip #3:  When creating a rule-based promotion which contains nested conditions use the  Conditions Combination  option to specify the relationship between each nested condition.
Tip #3:  Conditions Combination  or If  ANY  of these conditions are TRUE:
Tip #4:  Limit special prices and tier pricing by customer group Using a catalog price rule in Magento allows you to show different special prices to different customer groups.  Also, each tier-price level can be limited by customer group as well.
Tip #5:  Save time by setting up special prices with one price for multiple products. For example, all tee-shirts at a special price of $10.

  • 25. Tip #1: Automatic updates of catalog price rules. If you have catalog price rules saved in Magento they still need to be applied daily. Rather than do it manually each day, you should set up your cron.php file located in the Magento root folder to run periodically. This will enable Magento to update the special prices automatically. A step-by-step tutorial on setting up cron.php is posted in the wiki: www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/how_to/how_to_setup_a_cron_job
  • 26. Tip #2: Magento automatically removes and restores tier prices that are higher than the special price for that product.
  • 27. Tip #3: When creating a rule-based promotion which contains nested conditions use the Conditions Combination option to specify the relationship between each nested condition.

  • 29. Tip #4: Limit special prices and tier pricing by customer group Using a catalog price rule in Magento allows you to show different special prices to different customer groups. Also, each tier-price level can be limited by customer group as well.
