“I arise in the morning torn between the desire to
improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it hard to plan the day”, E.B.White.

We all have so many commitments these days that we can feel at times
we're getting ripped in a million different directions.
What to do? Take control now by achieving balance between your work and
personal lives.

WORK LIFE BALANCE is…
 The expression "work-life balance" was first
used in the late 1970s to describe the
balance between an individual's work and
personal life.
 achieved when an individual’s right to a
fulfilled life inside and outside paid work is
accepted and respected as the norm, to the
mutual benefit of the individual, business,
and society.

The search for work-life balance is a process in which people seek to
change things in accordance with changes in their own priorities,
physical, psychological or both, and these can be triggered in their
turn by factors such as: age; changes in working conditions; the
demands of new technology; and poor management.
 The ability to effectively manage the juggling act between paid
work
 and the other activities that are important to
-people.
 – Family/Friends
 – Recreation
 – Spiritual
 – Health and Wellness

Work-life balance struggles can diminish your
overall happiness and well-being and
negatively impact your life in far-reaching
ways.
Adverse health consequences, such as stressrelated illnesses, can result when you are
chronically tense or upset.
situational factors pose challenges to your
efforts to create the work-life balance you
want.
Many people are caught in the middle of
inner conflicts that make it hard for them to
make changes to create the healthier and
happier balance they would like.

Vasudevan






Overworked and overstressed employees are
more likely to get sick and have high
absentee rates.
A lack of work/life balance affects an
employee’s attitude. Unhappy workers are
typically less efficient and can destroy
morale.
Burnout directly affects turnover rates.
Employees can work at a frantic pace for
only so long before they get frustrated and
leave a company.

Women still take prime responsibility for
caring and domestic work; women’s
employment patterns remain much more
affected than men’s by the need to care for
children or others.
Work-life balance is dependent on a mixture
of state polices, individual circumstances and
cultural factors. These include norms and
assumptions particularly in relation to gender
roles and the domestic division of labour.
Parents on a low income, especially those
with few employment options and restricted
resources, have particular difficulties with
‘work-life balance’

companies must provide more than a good
salary and a medical plan. Companies have
started implementing flexible work options
like:
 Childcare
 Wellness programs
 Financial planning
 These work/life benefits encourage
employees to be more productive and
committed to the company, and they make
your company more competitive when
recruiting new candidates.
Vasudevan
Keeping work hold realistic: schedule time
accurately, manage resources
wisely, priortise tasks ,say no to projects that
could overload them.
Remove interruptions: free periods during the
work results in increased productivity and a
less stressful work environment.
Development and promotion of programs for
education and information concerning safety
and health of workers
