To think of it as nothing but water is to ignore the greater part.” — (Hal Borland, This Hill, This Valley ) -to start, let me give you an excerpt of the rather ancient 1957 book of author Hal Borland. <read> -we all know that rivers contribute a lot to the essential biological cycles in Earth, and to regard it as merely water is a failure to know of what rivers are in general.

Abiotic ecosystem? Flow -different flow intensity creates a variety of habitats for species that have different abilities to sustain flows. It also determines the amount of nutrients being deposited and carried out. -where their internal temperatures vary with their environment. This is designed as such so as to accommodate the different locations of the different parts of the rivers. -being a diverse biotic environment, oxygen is the most abundant nutrient?and factor in the different chemical metabolism -the type of substrate wether it is firm or loose affects the intensity of erosion.
Mississippi river- which is considered as the red river for having a sandy red substrate that mainly comes from the glaciers in Minnesota Palawan underground river- where a few of plankters are found since it is not directly sustained by sunlight.
Biotic ecosystem? Bacteria- both free-living and parasitic bacteria can be dominantly found in rivers. Parasitic forms mainly come from creeks and canals that sourced out from sewages. Primary producers- have both phytoplankton and periphyton. Periphyton attach themselves to surfaces which is a good adaptation for flowing waters. Invertebrates- most are insects, though not mainly found in the water, their habitat is being sustained by the river. Fishes- river fishes are classified in two, anadromous fishes such as salmons are born in freshwater and live in the oceans as adults. Catadromous fishes such as eels are born in the oceans and live in the freshwater as adults.
