5. Plan View
Plan view is a “top down” view
Don’t call it a “floor plan”, since it shows walls and
doors, not floors
Plan view is the most important view for architects
Use ⌘-1 for plan view.
7. Elevation
Elevation is a side view showing the exterior wall
Use North / South / East / West instead of left,
right, front or back.
Elevations show architectural details - like textures
- that Plans leave out.
Use ⌘-3, ⌘-4, ⌘-5, ⌘-6 to see Elevations.
9. Section
A section is an elevation with a part of the building
removed.
You can think of it as a “cutaway view”.
“Cross section” means a section that shows the
biggest part of the building.

11. Rendering
An artistic depiction of the building.
Shows you the idea of the building rather than the
details.
Usually includes other objects for scale, such as
people or landscapes.
Includes textures and materials.
