Gujarat Vibrant - National Ayurveda Summit 2014

  1. Life (ayu) is the combination (samyoga) of body, senses, mind and reincarnating soul. Ayurveda is the most sacred science of life, beneficial to humans both in this world and the world beyond - Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana, 1.42-43, 1500 B.C. 2 0 1 4 t h 25 FEBRUARY M A H A T M A M A N D I R , G A N D H I N A G A R
  2. Panchmahabhut SPACE FIRE AIR WATER EARTH Saptchakras India is a country with a golden history, a land of unsolved mysteries and and infinite treasure of knowledge. Be it about science, be it about civilization & society, be it about art and culture or spreading knowledge through innovations & philosophies, India has played the role of a torch-bearer to the world. India is one of the most ancient civilizations in the world and possesses many theories about the formulation and the existence of the world. Along with the evolution of Mother Earth, the Panchmahabhuto theory also explains the creation of simple to complex lives with the combination of the five elements. Saptdhatu RASA RAK TMAANSA MEDA ASTH IMAJJ SAHUKRA The five elements alone cannot be convert-ed to life. Life is the combination of these elements with each other. These combinations are called Saptadhatu. Dhatu is originally a Sanskrit word which means ‘that which enters into the formation of the body’; the root Dhaa means ‘support’ or ‘that which bears’. There are seven basic dhatus in the human body, which are composed of the Panchmahabhuta. These dhatus remain inside the human body in a proper equilibrium so that the body can function properly. With the help of the five elements, life came into the existence and the combinations of these elements in the form of the seven Dhatus formed the human body. But a human body can only work with systematically channelized energy. The seven chakras in our body manage the energy resulting in harmony of human life. Each of them works according to our life cycle and has special characteristics, which provide energy to our body. The seven main chakra centers are aligned along the spinal column. If there are disturbances on any level, this shows in the chakra’s vitality level. Also each of the seven main chakras is their own intelligence center. This means that each chakra is not only associated with our physical health but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief system. So these are the chakras which control our body throughout our life cycle. If any of them gets disturbed negative energy gets generated in our body and which leads to deformities and diseases. Indians have nutured and strengthened life and cured diseases for thousands of years. We call this significant innovations to preserve life as Ayurveda, the science of life.
  3. “OUR BODY IS NOT A SYSTEM OF ORGANS BUT IT’S A SYSTEM OF SPACE FIRE AIR WATER EARTH RASA RAKT AMAM SAMED AAST HIMA JJASHUKRA MULADHAR ASWADHISTHAN AMANIPU RAA NAH ATAVISHUD D HAA JNASAHAS RARA AYURVEDA- THE SCIENCE OF LIFE THE MOTHER OF MODERN MEDICINE INTERNAL MEDICINES U RGERY O RGANIC MEDICINE PEDIATRIC S T OXICOLOGY REJUVENATING REME D YAPHRODISIAC REMEDIES SPIRITUAL HEALING AYURVEDA believes that our body is made up of five elements (Panchabhutas). When joined in different combinations, they make up the three “doshas” or “biological modes” which are the “Prakruti” or nature of an individual and the nature of all things. As long as these three Doshas are in balance, we enjoy perfect health. The three doshas are Vata (air & space – “wind”), Pitta (fire & water – “bile”) and Kapha (water & earth – “phlegm”). Ayurvedic theory asserts that each human possesses a unique combination of doshas that define that- person’s temper ament and characteristics. Each person has a natural systems state, a natural combination of the three elements, and should seek balance by structuring their behavior or environment to provide more of the element(s) they lack. Ancient Indian books tell us that people used to live long healthy lives measuring into hundreds of years. The base of today’s medication is also taken from Ayurveda. This whole science of life was created and gathered in the VEDAS five to six thousand years ago. VIBRANT GUJARAT AYURVEDA SUMMIT - 2014
  4. MODERN LIVING OFFERS US MANY COMFORTS AND LUXURIES. THE PACE OF LIFE HAS BEEN CONSTANTLY INCREASING ESPECIALLY IN THE LAST TWO DECADES. NEW GADGETS AND INSTRUMENTS HAVE BEEN INVENTED WHICH HELP US WORK FASTER AND TRAVEL TO DISTANT PLACES IN A SHORT TIME. TECHNOLOGY HAS ENABLED US TO DO MORE WORK IN LESS TIME AND MADE US MORE MATERIALISTIC. THE CYBER REVOLUTION HAS REMOVED ALL BOUNDARIES AND THERE ARE MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH. MODERN MEDICINE HAS INVENTED DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND THERAPEUTIC FORMULATIONS, WHICH CAN IDENTIFY DISEASES AT THE MINUTEST LEVELS, AND SUPPRESS IT. ALL THESE WONDERFUL INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN TIMES WERE ORIGINALLY DISCOVERED TO ENRICH OUR LIVES WITH HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND PEACE. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, THE RESULTS ARE TOTALLY OPPOSITE OF SUCH EXPECTATIONS. IN OUR SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS, HEALTH, PEACE AND LOVE, WE HAVE FOUND MORE DISEASES, MENTAL UNREST, UNHAPPINESS AND LONELINESS. THIS MEANS WE ARE EITHER GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION OR WE ARE MISSING THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. EACH ONE OF US HAS A BODY, MIND AND SOUL BUT WE HARDLY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. IT IS LIKE WE ARE DRIVING A CAR WITHOUT KNOWING MUCH ABOUT HOW IT WORKS, WHAT KIND OF FUEL TO PUT IN IT, NOT KNOWING THE TRAFFIC RULES, AND NOT EVEN HAVING A DRIVER’S LICENSE. WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN SUCH A SITUATION? IF WE WANT TO SEE A HEALTHY WORLD, IT WILL HAPPEN ONLY THROUGH AYURVEDA, BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY MEDICAL SYSTEM, WHICH CATERS TO THE ‘COMPLETE’ HUMAN (BODY, MIND, EMOTIONS, SOUL)
  5. THE SCIENCE FOR 21ST CENTURY India’s contribution towards science and technology has been overlooked. India’s ancient knowledge is yet a untold story… many folds yet to be discovered… many philosophies yet to be understood. It was India, which nurtured the roots of modern medicine. Everything in medicine is expensive today, including the doctor you see, the consultation , and the doctor puts himself in a very fancy clinic, in a fancy hospital which is also expensive, then the machines are expensive. The medicines are horribly expensive. Actual cost of the medicine is very small. Today we should modify our way of thinking… our way of living. Lifestyle disorders are going to be a huge problem for our society in the near future. Many people across the globe has been cured from deadly conditions with the help of Ayurveda, against which even modern medical science struggles. Ayurveda is a very organic way of reacting with our body. Ayurveda is not offering something orthodox and outdated but it offers solutions based on knowledge that is proven by 5,000 years of research along with 21st century science. Ayurveda is not a medicine of past at all. Allopathic medicine along with the ancient medicines can be of immense benefit to humanity. It is important to marry these two systems for the benefit of the world. Rigveda - the power of knowledge, Yajurveda - the power of action and Samveda - the power of will, the three powers of the human mind are together known as the tri. The fourth veda - Arthaveda is the veda of compensation, the veda of rectification, the veda of correction. When harmony between your knowledge, action and will is disturbed, a person has to forcefully bring it back into harmony. The fourth veda represents that reestablishment of the harmony. Prakriti, the female energy, creates all forms in the universe and is the foundation of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is not just a science for body but it is also a science for a healthy mind, which in turn leads to good thoughts and good behavior. VIBRANT GUJARAT AYURVEDA SUMMIT - 2014
  6. NURTURE. HARVEST. BRAND. EARLIER MEDICINE WAS AN ART AND SCIENCE WAS A VERY IMPORTANT TOOL OF THIS ART. SINCE WE ARE FOLLOWING SCIENCE WE MAKE IT VERY MECHANIZED, WITH RULES, CONTROL AND RESTRICTIONS. HOW CAN YOU CONTROL ART? AN ARTIST HAS HIS OWN CREATIVITY. IN SCIENCE WE DEAL WITH DISEASES WHICH IS DEADLY, IN THIS ART WE DEAL WITH LIFE WHICH IS HEALTHY. India has one of the richest biodiversities, also equally rich knowledge of how to use this biodiversity for serving and promoting human health. In India we can find medical knowledge in all communities. Right from tribal to folklore medicine, to village medicine to the more learned or sophisticated codified traditions which we call the classical Ayurveda. This art of healthcare was learned by our ancestors by observing animal life. This was the basis of tribal medicine. What the classical stream did was to continuously refine, modify and validate these healthcare practices. And what was validated became the classical stream and what remained with the people became the folk stream. Ayurveda has about 200,000 medicinal species to take care of various health problems compared to allopathic medicines, which has only 4,000 formulations. Ayurveda is about universal relations between medicines and balancing between various plants with medicinal properties. Everything in universe has medicinal values. It is important to know how to make use of it. The challenge is to apply Ayurvedic principles in this changing modern environment. there is urgent need to invest more on ayurveda medicines and the methods followed in this ancient Indian medicine system. If properly tapped, this could be the key to India’s aspiration towards global super power status. Ayurveda can be seen as one of the most visible faces of alternative medicine practiced through out the world. VGAWSE is an initiative to take Ayurveda to the world, through a dynamic platform to discuss, interact, explore and to cultivate a path for a glorious future. Leading Ayurveda institutions, government bodies, private organizations, practitioners, international delegates will share the platform to discuss what the world will discuss tomorrow. The methods of cure related to Ayurveda massages, herbal therapy, yoga and health consciousness are most prominent areas which are gaining interest across the globe and hold the promise to be the next big thing in the medical and wellness industry. The business prospects amount to a $20 billion ready market, which is growing very fast and will become $5 trillion market worldwide by 2050. It goes without saying that center of all growth will be India as this is an ancient Indian science. To give Ayurveda its proper place in medical science, government of Gujarat has brought together all the Ayurveda experts, manufacturers, practitioners on a common platform; the Vibrant Gujarat World Ayurveda Summit and Expo. This will showcase the scope of Ayurveda and explore all the business and medical science possibilities of Ayurveda. There are two big advantages in this industry to be gained by prospective investors. First, that it is recession proof – as the healthcare industry has always been. Second, it reaches out to a larger chunk of target consumers across all income groups. As such, this happens to be a great time to be in the Ayurveda market as it is expected to grow exponentially in the next few years. The fact that Ayurveda provides a viable business opportunity is borne out by the long and successful runs of several brands in this field that include Dabur (launched 1884), Amrutanjan (launched 1893), Himalaya (launched 1930), Baidyanath (launched 1917), VICCO (launched 1952) and many more!
