The peer-to-peer paradigm gained more and more impact in the last years. The reason for P2P arising now is related to the continuous development of device capabilities in the last years, like CPU power, storage space and bandwidth. However, the demand for services and resources is permanently increasing, although the peers have a variety of other resources themselves. In this paper we present the idea of a P2P system acting as a service provider using the resources of participating peers and stating guarantees on the quality of the service it provides. In order to fulfill these service level agreements, the peers confederate to a distributed supervisor of peer resources (P2PCLOUD), monitoring the network, predicting trends on resource availabilities and deciding on resource allocation strategies. This paper discusses the challenges and a solution draft of the concept of P2PCLOUD.

Multi-path TCP (MP-TCP) has the prospective to significantly advance applications performance by using multiple paths evidently. Multipath TCP was intended and employed as a backward compatible replacement for TCP. For this reason, it exposes the standard socket API to the applications that cannot control the utilization of the different paths. This is a key feature for applications that are unaware of the multipath nature of the network. On the contrary, this is a limitation for applications that could benefit from specific knowledge to use multiple paths in a way that fits their needs. Therefore, hosts are often connected by multiple paths, but TCP restricts communications to a single path per transport connection. Resource usage within the network would be more efficient where these multiple paths able to be used concurrently. This should enhance user experience through improved resilience to network failure and higher throughput. In this paper, we have focused on MPTCP and discussed the performance issues and its solution. We believe our concept will be useful for future works of MPTCP performance evaluation.

Peer-to-peer swarming protocols have been proven to be very efficient for content replication over Internet. This fact has certainly motivated proposals to adapt these protocols to meet the requirements of on-demand streaming system. The vast majority of these proposals focus on modifying the piece and peer selection policies, respectively, of the original protocols. Nonetheless, it is true that more attention has often been given to the piece selection policy rather than to the peer selection policy. Within this context, this article proposes a simple algorithm to be used as basis for peer selection policies of BitTorrent-like protocols, considering interactive scenarios. To this end, we analyze the client’s interactive behaviour when accessing real multimedia systems. This analysis consists of looking into workloads of real content providers and assessing three important metrics, namely temporal dispersion, spatial dispersion and object position popularity. These metrics are then used as the main guidelines for writing the algorithm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the client’s interactive behaviour is specially considered to derive an algorithm for peer selection policies. Finally, the conclusion of this article is drawn with key challenges and possible future work in this research field.

Abstract: Cataloging traffic keen on precise network applications is vital for application-aware network organization and it turn into more taxing because modern applications incomprehensible their network behaviors. Whereas port number-based classifiers work merely for a little renowned application and signaturebased classifiers are not significant to encrypted packet payloads, researchers are inclined to classify network traffic rooted in behaviors scrutinized in network applications. In this document, a session level Flood Cataloging (SLFC) approach is proposed to organize network Floods as a session, which encompasses of Floods in the equal discussion. SLFC initially classifies flood into the analogous applications by packet size distribution (PSD) and subsequently faction Floods as sessions by port locality. With PSD, each Flood is distorted into a set of points in a two-Dimension space and the remoteness among all Flood and the representatives of preselected applications are calculated. The Flood is predicted as the application having a least distance. Meanwhile, port locality is accustomed to cluster Floods as sessions since an application often uses successive port statistics surrounded by a session. If flood of a session are categorized into diverse applications, an arbitration algorithm is invoked to make the improvement. Peer-to-Peer Video-on-Demand (VoD) is a favorable solution which compromises thousands of videos to millions of users with completeinteractive video watching stream. Most of the profitable P2P streaming groupsPPLive, PPStream and UUSee have announced a multichannel P2P VoD system that approvals user to view extra one channel at a time. The present multiple channel P2P VoD system resonant a video at a low streaming rate due to the channel resource inequity and channel churn. In order to growth the streaming capacity, this paper highlights completely different effective helpers created resource balancing scheme that actively recognizes the supply-and-demand inequity in multiple channels. Moreover, peers in an extra channel help its unused bandwidth resources to peers in a shortage channel that minimizes the server bandwidth consumption. To provide a desired replication ratio for optimal caching, it develops a dynamic replication strategy that optimally tunes the number of replicas based on dynamic popularity in a distributed and dynamic routine. This work accurately forecasts the varying popularity over time using Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model, an effective time-series forecasting technique that supports dynamic environment. Experimental assessment displays that the offered dynamic replication strategy which should achieves high streaming capacity under reduced server workload when associated to existing replication algorithms.

Peer-to-Peer streaming technology has become one of the major Internet applications as it offers the opportunity of broadcasting high quality video content to a large number of peers with low costs. It is widely accepted that with the efficient utilization of peers and server's upload capacities, peers can enjoy watching a high bit rate video with minimal end-to-end delay. In this paper, we present a practical scheduling algorithm that works in the challenging condition where no spare capacity is available, i.e., it maximally utilizes the resources and broadcasts the maximum streaming rate. Each peer contacts with only a small number of neighbours in the overlay network and autonomously subscribes to sub-streams according to a budget-model in such a way that the number of peers forwarding exactly one sub-stream will be maximized. The hop-count delay is also taken into account to construct a short depth trees. Finally, we show through simulation that peers dynamically converge to an efficient overlay structure with a short hop-count delay. Moreover, the proposed scheme gives nice features in the homogeneous case and overcomes SplitStream in all simulated scenarios.

This may cause inefficient communications among peers. This topology mismatch problem may result in poor performance and scalability for Peer-to-Peer systems. A possible way to improve the performance of Peer-to-Peer systems is the overlay network construction based on the knowledge of the physical network topology. In this paper, we will propose the use of the “Record Route” and “Timestamp” options supported in the IP protocol to explore the paths between peers. By the topology-aware peer selection, our approach outperforms traditional P2P systems using random peer selection. Our approach only incurs a low overhead and can be deployed easily in various P2P systems.

In recent years, research efforts tried to exploit peer-to-peer (P2P) systems in order to provide Live Streaming (LS) and Video-on-Demand (VoD) services. Most of these research efforts focus on the development of distributed P2P block schedulers for content exchange among the participating peers and on the characteristics of the overlay graph (P2P overlay) that interconnects the set of these peers. Currently, researchers try to combine peer-to-peer systems with cloud infrastructures. They developed monitoring and control architectures that use resources from the cloud in order to enhance QoS and achieve an attractive trade-off between stability and low cost operation. However, there is a lack of research effort on the congestion control of these systems and the existing congestion control architectures are not suitable for P2P live streaming traffic (small sequential non persistent traffic towards multiple network locations). This paper proposes a P2P live streaming traffic aware congestion control protocol that: i) is capable to manage sequential traffic heading to multiple network destinations , ii) efficiently exploits the available bandwidth, iii) accurately measures the idle peer resources, iv) avoids network congestion, and v) is friendly to traditional TCP generated traffic. The proposed P2P congestion control has been implemented, tested and evaluated through a series of real experiments powered across the BonFIRE infrastructure
