SOCIAL MEDIA CAN BE
BEST DEFINED AS
VARIOUS VIRTUAL
SPACES WHERE PEOPLE
SHARE PUBLIC OR
PRIVATE INFORMATION,
WITH ALL OR A
SELECTED GROUP OF
PEOPLE.

PROFILES
This is where you tell
the world about
yourself. It contains
basic information:
- where you live,
- how old you are,
- personality
- special theme
questions
FRIENDS
Friends are trusted members
of the site that are allowed to
post comments on your
profile or send you private
messages. Friends are the
heart and soul of social
networking. -- LinkedIn refers
to them as 'connections
GROUPS
Most social networks use
groups that share similar
interests or are engaged
in discussions on certain
topics. A group can be
anything you want.
They are both a way to
connect with like-minded
people and a way to
identify your interests.
DISCUSSIONS
A primary focus of groups is to
interact between users in the
form of discussions.
Most social networking
websites support discussion
boards for the groups, and
many also allow members of
the group to post pictures,
music, video clips, and other
tidbits related to the group.
BLOGS
Another feature of some
social networks is your
own blog.
Not as feature-rich as
Wordpress or Blogger,
but blogging through a
social network is perfect
for keeping people
informed on what you are
up to.
Twitter – a new way of
microblogging.
WIDGETS
A popular way of making
your social networking more
interesting is to use web
widgets.
Many social networks allow
a variety of widgets, and
you can usually find
interesting widgets located
on widget galleries.

CLOUD COMPUTING
Cloud computing refers to
the on-demand provision of
computational resources (data,
software) via a computer
network, rather than from a
local computer. Users or
clients can submit a task, such
as word processing, to the
service provider, without
actually possessing the
software or hardware.
MOBILE TECHNOLOGY
Mobile technology is exactly what
the name implies - technology that is
portable. Examples of mobile IT
devices include:
• laptop and netbook computers
• palmtop computers or personal
digital assistants
• mobile phones and 'smart phones'
• global positioning system (GPS)
devices
• wireless debit/credit card payment
terminals
SOCIAL MEDIA AND PROJECTS
What is good learning?
• students collaborating and discussing
ideas, possible solutions…
• project-based learning, designed
around real world contexts…
• connecting with other students
around the world, on topics of study…
• immersing students in a learning
experience that allows them to
grapple with a problem, gaining
higher-order thinking skills from
pursuing the solution…
http://businessblogs.co.nz/files/2010/11/socialmediawagon.jpg
SOCIAL MEDIA, PROJECTS AND LEARNING
Students must be able to
• work in teams that are cross-
functional and often global
• to solve complex and
important problems that
critically affect the world
• while responding creatively to
rapidly changing business
landscapes using rapidly
evolving technologies
