CATHY S. BEYDA is of counsel in Paul Hastings' Corporate practice and is located in our Palo Alto Office.
She focuses her practice on financial institutions and other companies participating in the nation's
banking and payment systems. Ms. Beyda has advised numerous financial institutions‚ payroll card
companies and employers on issues relating to electronic wage payment including the development of
multi-state compliant paperless wage payment programs. She has counseled the nation's largest
payment brand on strategies for influencing legal developments and removing barriers to electronic
wage payment‚ and on the use of prepaid cards to disburse workers' compensation and other benefits.
Ms. Beyda also frequently works with clients to obtain regulatory approval of their electronic payment
programs. Additionally‚ Ms. Beyda has experience representing and advising employers on a wide
variety of employment-related issues‚ with a focus on multistate wage and hour compliance. She has
defended clients in litigation disputes involving wrongful termination‚ state and federal discrimination
laws‚ and other work-related tort claims. Ms. Beyda is the Chairperson of the American Payroll
Association's Government Affairs Task Force on Payroll Cards and the Association's Paycard User Group.
She has written numerous articles on electronic wage payment‚ and frequently speaks on the topic. She
also is the author of ethical guidelines on hiring and employee compensation for the Open
Compensation and Ethics Group‚ a nonprofit organization. Ms. Beyda received her J.D. from Stanford
University in 1990. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from University of California at Berkeley
graduating with highest honors in 1985. She is a member of American Bar Association‚ State of California
Bar Association and the Santa Clara County Bar Association.
