SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian constructors say they have installed the giant roofing structure that
collapsed after a crane failure at bellevue windows the stadium hosting the World Cup's opening
match in three months.
The accident late last year killed two workers and caused significant damage to the Itaquerao
stadium, prompting a delay that should keep the venue from being handed over to FIFA until about a
month before the opener between Brazil and Croatia on June 12.
Constructor Odebrecht said Monday it took nearly six hours to install the 420-ton, 77-meter-long
(250-feet-long) metal structure that runs across one of the stadium's goals.
Odebrecht says the Itaquerao is 98 percent completed and it should be ready on April 15, but FIFA
Secretary General Jerome Valcke said recently he expects the venue finalized in mid-May.
