1. KNOW YOUR SALAAT
Imam Ali-ibn-al Husain (as) says: "Samad' is One Who has no partner and it is not difficult for
Him to protect things, and nothing is hidden from Him".
Allah is eternal
3. “When Rasulallah (saw) informed her daughter Fatima (sa) about the killing
of her son Husain (as) and the problems that he will face, Fatima (sa)
started to cry and cried severely and said, “O Father, when will it
happen?”
Rasulallah (saw) replied, “In a time in which I, You and Ali (as) will not be
there”.
(Hearing this) She cried more severely and said, “O Father, who will cry
over him? And who will do Azadari to mourn for him?
Rasulallah (saw) said, “O Fatima (sa), the women of my nation will cry over
the women of my family and the men of my nation will cry over the
men of my family. They will continue to do Azadari every year
generation after generation.”
4. Where was the first Majlis for Imam Hussain (as) held?
Majlis means a Gathering
The first Majlis of imam Hussein (as) was started by his sister, Bibi Zainab (as). The
Majlis was held as soon as they were set free by Yazid in Damascus Syria. In this
majlis, Bibi Zainab revealed to the womwn of damascus all the horrors that

7. Once when Nabi Isa (as) was travelling, he sat down and

8. Purpose of Majalis?

Majalis reminds us all of the sacrifice that the Ahlul
Bayt (as) made and how they gave everything they had in the way of
Allah. We build acconnection with the Ahlul bayt
If it were not for the majalis, Karbala would be
lost in history and we would not know about the
Ahlulbayt & their sacrifices
The lectures of Majalis help us to reflect on our lives
encourages us to become better people and stand up against
injustice and oppression just like Imam Hussein (as) did
We mourn, cry or feel sad on the brutal way Imam Hussain (as)
his family members and companions were killed. We establish a
connection of love with them as we remember the Ahlulbayt.
9. Manners of doing Azadari
• When you come for majlis, Intention, should be for the sake of Imam
Hussain(as). Do not stand outside when Majlis is being recited. Reward for attending a Majlis
can only be attained when one attends the gathering with the the right intention.
• Do your best to stay in wudhu.
• Dress appropriately, wear dark colors, refrain from wearing bright colored
clothes
• Do not laugh or joke before during and after a Majlis, especially on the day
Ashura and the eve of Shame Ghariba. Do not talk or do any worldly things
on this day
• It is mustahab not to eat and drink from dawn until Zohr time. We
remember the thirst and hunger of Imam Hussein (as) his family and
companions. This is called Faqah
• You will gain a lot of knowledge and tips for your life from the lectures, store
this vital information by taking notes and reflecting on them later on and then
try and implement.
10. Marthiya
• Recitation of Marthiyas , which are poems written
to help us mourn the tragedy of Karbala
• One of the earliest Marthiyas was written by imam
Hussein’s (as) wife –Sayyida Rubab(as)
11. Matam & Nawha
Beating of the chest is another form of
Azadari.
It is accompanied by the recitation of a
Nawha, which is another form of
poetry
12. Ziyarah زيارة "visit"
