to please other people, not Allah.
Hmm. Let me
impress them
with my
Salaat

4.
5. The goal in doing good deeds is
To please Allah,
and to purify our souls
Doing good deeds
Praying, fasting, and giving
charity are all performed to clean the soul of
diseases like greed and pride, and to get
closer to Allah.
6. AN EXAMPLE OF DOING GOOD FOR ALLAH
When Imam Hasan(as) and Imam Husayn (as) were
young, they became very sick.
On Rasulallah’s (saw) advice , mam Ali (as) and bibi
Fatimah(as), prayed to Allah (swt) for their recovery and
made a promise to fast if they become well
The children recovered soon after. Imam Ali (as) and
Sayyidah Fatimah(as), and their helper, Lady Fidha,
decided to fulfill their promise.
Imam Hasan(as) and Imam Husayn (as) Also joined in
the fast
7. BIBI FATIMA MILLED
SOME OF THE BARLEY
AND BAKED BREAD
WHICH WAS JUST
ENOUGH FOR 3 DAYS
FOR IFTAR
8. The family and lady Fidha fasted their first day, and as
they were about to break their fast on the small
amount of bread they had, there was a knock on their
door.
9. • It was a destitute man
who said, “Oh
Household of the
Prophet, I am a poor
Muslim and I am hungry
– will you give me food?”
Without hesitation, the
family gave up the little
they had to the needy
man, and slept that night
having only had water to
break their fast. And
with this they began
their second day of
fasting.
DAY 1
10. DAY 2
As they were about to break their fast on
day two, they heard a knock on the door.
It was an orphan who stood outside their
door, begging for food. Just like the night
before, the family gave up their bread and
broke their fast on water alone.
11. On the third and
final fasting day,
someone knocked
on the holy family’s
door. It was a
(recently released,)
prisoner who, also
pleaded for food.
Once again, the
family gave up all
they had.
DAY 3
12. Despite their physical state and the toll of their charity on their bodies, the family did not
complain or reject those who knocked on their doors. Each day they gave generously while
disregarding their own hunger and desire for food.
Allah loved their action so much, that he revealed verses (Al-Insaan 7-10) in their
honor
(7)They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be
widespread.
(8) And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the
captive,
(9) Saying We only feed you for God’s sake; we desire from you neither reward nor
thanks
(10) Surely we fear from our Lord a harsh and distressful day.
They had given all their food out of love for God and fear of a day when they will
be asked about what they did when someone begged at their door for help. They
could have rejected the needy because they had very little food or they could
have donated some of their food so that they are not deprived of a share of it
themselves. But they did not do that. They made no excuses. They rejected no
one. They thought about what is most pleasing to God and their obligation to help
the needy in their community.
