2. 3 Curves
o The 3 natural curves of the spine allow
for great flexibility, but also inherent
instability. The spine is most stable
when these curves compensate for one
another. This compensation occurs
when your ears, shoulders, and hips
are in a straight line. This is referred to
as a neutral spine position.
3. Lifting Safety Tips
o Lifting doesn't have to be a dangerous proposition. Even
repetitive or heavy lifting can be perfectly safe when it is
done correctly. Utilizing proper body mechanics and
lifting techniques is the key to limiting your risk of back
injury.
4. Lifting Safety Tips
o Start and stop all lifts above your knees and below your
shoulders. (Lifting Strike Zone)
o Keep your back straight (neutral spine) during any lift.
o Power the lift with your legs.
5. Lifting Safety Tips
o Hold the object as close to your body as possible. (this
decreases the stress on your spine)
o Avoid rotational movements of the spine during a lift.
Use your feet to make your turns.
o When given the option between pushing or pulling an
object, always push.
