Sabbatical Reflections, Part 1 of 2
“Come to me… and I will give you rest”
This week, Pastor Rick returned from his sabbatical, and shared his
thanks and these thoughts on his "rest" and on how to find "rest" with
God. This is Part One of a Two-Part series on "Faithful Sabbath Living".
“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads,
and I will give you rest. Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle
and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy to
bear, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus offers us rest with these four key points from the Gospel of
Matthew shown above:
1. Come to me. Jesus invites us to come to Him, and we cannot find
true rest without Him.
2. Put on my yoke. We must make the decision to follow Him and
live the life He wants us to live.
3. Learn from me. Jesus shows us how to live an abundant life when
we obey His teachings.

4. And you will find rest for yourselves. He offers His peace to all.
God set the model of rest for us to live by.
On the sixth day God completed all the work that he had done, and on
the seventh day God rested from all the work that he had done. God
blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from
all the work of creation.
Genesis 2:2-3
God commands us to rest.
Remember the Sabbath day and treat it as holy. Six days you may work
and do all your tasks, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your
God. Do not do any work on it—not you, your sons or daughters, your
male or female servants, your animals, or the immigrant who is living
with you.
Exodus 20:8-10
Jesus offers us rest.
Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads,
and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
True rest is found in God alone. Thus, we must take time to BE WITH
GOD. The Sabbath was meant to renew us and to free us from the
anxieties of life, so that we can be what and who God meant for us to
be.
God is rich in mercy. He brought us to life with Christ while we were
dead as a result of those things that we did wrong. He did this because
of the great love that he has for us. You are saved by God’s grace! And
God raised us up and seated us in the heavens with Christ Jesus. God did
this to show future generations the greatness of his grace by the
goodness that God has shown us in Christ Jesus. You are saved by God’s
grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not
something you possessed. It’s not something you did that you can be
proud of. Instead, we are God’s accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus
to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that
we live our lives.

Farewell to Pastor Lindsey, Scott and
Josiah
Today we said goodbye to the Eklunds. Pastor Lindsey has been assigned to
Monroe United Methodist Church. We will miss her and her family very much,
but know that God goes with them and we wish them the best.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And
who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

All-Church Cook-out and
Ice Cream Social
September 8, 12-2 PM
We kicking off the fall church season with an all-
church cook-out immediately following the Worship
Service. Make this Sunday a good time to
"reconnect" with friends and ministry leaders.
We will grill hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages in
the area adjacent to The Gathering Place and have an ice cream bar for
the young and the "young-at-heart".

by Kay Smith. Sign up in the church foyer. Childcare available on
request. Book cost: $8.00.
Men's Bible Study
"The Harmony of the Gospels" study resumes on Tuesday at 9:45 AM in
Room 10. Dick Zornes will be teaching.

Wednesday Women's Bible Study
Meets Wednesday mornings, 10 - 11:30 AM. Study: "Forever Touched:
Significant Women in Jesus' Life". Sign up in the church foyer.

Would you consider making an impact in the life of a student?
We are looking for help with the youth ministry to pour the love of Jesus
Christ into the lives of students aged 10-16. The latest Barna Study
indicates that nearly half (43%) of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ
as their Savior do so before the age of 13. Almost two out of three (64%)
of born-again Christians made that commitment to Christ before their
18th birthday.
You can help in many ways:
Chaperon retreats
Mentor student leaders
Lead weekly Crossfire events - play games, eat together, share
the Gospel
Pray for our students
Teach "tweeners' Sunday School once a month
