1. Weekly News from WCUMC-11/25/2012
Sharing the transforming love of Jesus, across the street and around the world.
"Thanks-Living - Love and Hate"
Our Youth Director, Kim Knudsvig, shared some of the things that God
loves and God hates.
In Proverbs 6:16-19, we are told that "There are six things the Lord
hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community."
But God also hates the loneliness we feel when our sin and complacency
distance us from Him. Even when we feel distant from God, God is not
distant from us. These words in Paul's letter to the Romans assures us
that
God is always with us "For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any
powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will
be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our
Lord."
We know that God loves us because he sent His only Son to bear the
burden of our sins, but he also wants us to love others in the same way
that he love us.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his
Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved
us, we also ought to love one another.
1 John 4:10-11
For we are God’s masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10
