This weekly newsletter from Woodinville Community United Methodist Church provides updates on church events and ministries for the week. It reflects on the importance of rest and slowing down to spend time with God, as exemplified by Jesus spending time alone in prayer. The newsletter announces upcoming events including a cookout, choir practice, Bible studies and opportunities to volunteer with youth ministry. It also provides a financial snapshot and prayer requests.
1. Weekly News from WCUMC-9/01/2013
Sharing the transforming love of Jesus, across the street and around the world.
Sabbatical Reflections, Part 2 of 2
“Continuing coming to me…
and I will give you rest”
Last week we read in Matthew 11:28, how Jesus said,
"Come to me… and I will give you rest."
Resting in Christ is a lifelong process. He was saying to us, “CONTINUE
COMING TO ME… and I will give you rest”
Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a
deserted place where he could be alone in prayer.
Mark 1:35
Mark 1:35 is “sandwiched” between some very demanding healing and
preaching activities. It stresses the necessity of a sacred rhythm of work
and rest.
"We are so obsessed with doing that we have no time and no
imagination left for being. As a result, people are valued not for
what they are but for what they do or what they have - for their
usefulness."
Thomas Merton
2. As we think about the importance of "coming to Jesus" for rest, please
reflect on these questions:
1. Am I a human being… or a human doing?
2. Is my “busyness” drawing me closer to God?
3. Does God love me more for who I am… or for what I do?
It is important for us to slow down and "rest" with Jesus. Here are some
practices and disciplines you can pursue for Faithful Sabbath Living?
Take Time in Scripture …
Take Time in God’s Creation …
Take Time in Silence …
Take Time for STOPPING …
Take Time for Awareness …

Would you consider making an impact in the life of a student?
We are looking for help with the youth ministry to pour the love of Jesus
Christ into the lives of students aged 10-16. The latest Barna Study
indicates that nearly half (43%) of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ
as their Savior do so before the age of 13. Almost two out of three (64%)
of born-again Christians made that commitment to Christ before their
18th birthday.
You can help in many ways:
