Over 6 million people are said to have visited the famous
beer festival, Oktoberfest, from all over the world this year,
and they managed to guzzle an impressive 6.5 million 1 litre
mugs of beer.

3. The beer tradition begins
In 1810, Crown Prince Ludwig was married to Princess
Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12th October.
The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the
festivities and celebrate with the happy royal couple.
The decision to repeat the celebrations gave rise to the
tradition of the Oktoberfest.

4. Munich’s Climate
Munich is the capital and largest state of the state of Bavaria, sitting
on the River Isar and north of the Bavarian Alps. It is also the third
largest city in Germany.
Summer is relatively hot with an average high of 25°C and July is both
the hottest and sunniest month of the year.
Yet, showers and thunderstorms cause the highest average monthly
precipitation totals during late spring and throughout the summer.
June, on average, records the most rainfall of any month.
