Welcome to the WTS webinar “Is Your iSeries Recoverable? On today’s webinar, we will cover topics related to iSeries disaster recovery including recovery planning, staffing, and best practices for IBM’s AS/400 solution.
My name is Ward Quarles I am Director of Marketing & Communications for WTS Thank you for joining us today. We appreciate the time you have devoted to this webinar and will use it wisely. Let’s get started.
What is a Disaster? Anything that stops your business from functioning and that cannot be corrected within an acceptable amount of time. Each organization will have to determine what situations might constitute a disaster.
What is a disaster? A disaster in the gulf states might be a hurricane.
What is a disaster? For other organizations, a disaster might be related to natural occurring weather events like tornado, severe storm, or an earthquake.
What is a disaster? For all of us, an information technology systems failure would be a disaster.
Reality is you know your organizations and what they would be risks in terms of a disaster. Natural disasters like Tornado, Flood, Hurricane, and Earthquake. Extended power outages associated with your electrical power supply. Operator error. Hardware or disk failures A malicious attack from inside or outside the organization. Planned maintenance gone wrong. FEMA has recorded over 1,938 major disasters since 1953. In 2010, FEMA recorded 70 weather related and emergency disasters in the United States. Are any of your companies at risk? Only you can decide what constitutes a disaster.
You may remember these important questions from our introductory email. Is your iSeries recoverable? Are you tasked with developing your recovery plan? Will your recovery plan include documented recovery procedures? Can you guarantee the availability of your internal staff during a disaster? What facilities and equipment will be used for your recovery in the event of a disaster?
Statistics tell us if we are like other companies. 12% of companies do not have a recovery solution or plan. 24% have a warm-site solution with companies like IBM or SunGard. Most have never completed a successful test with these organizations. 25% have an in-house, same site recovery solution.
A poor availability solution can only lead to other corporate issues including loss of business data, lengthy disruptions in your business including a lack of computer software solutions, internal conflict and chaos, and the potential loss of customers.
Is Your Organization Prepared for a Disaster?
Does your nightly backup guarantee a recovery? Most of our organizations use nightly backups to protect our data.
Be prepared! No one wants to be in a position of explaining why your organization could not recover from a disaster.
