Digi programme £22m, Enriching £2m Enriching: Pilot and small-scale digitisation or smaller feasibility studies prior to larger scale activity Enhancement of existing collections to help promote and further develop collections that have already been digitised but are currently underused or could benefit from extra development Developing clusters of content by bringing together related digital resources 2009 onwards: difficult financial climate; credit crunch, cuts to institutions budgets, bleak scenario
How can we strengthen our content value proposition? How can we make sure we meet users’ needs and provide the quality of experience what teachers, learners and researchers need? Making the most of what we have, in relation to: Funding Working together/partnerships Capitalising on past investments Capitalising on existing content Galvanising the power of the crowd and users Getting what you can for free (eg tools, platforms, help) Title: The “Tenements”- bunks in Winterquarters Hut, of Lieut Bowers, Mr Cherry-Garrard, Captain Oates, Mr Meares, and Dr Atkinson. What challenegs was/is our community facing with regard to creating, delivering and sustaining digital content? Caridff conference: increased collaboration, and also of continuing developing effective models for sustaining digitisation. JDDC09: digitisation projects need to be incorporated into coherent, sustainable inter-departmental strategies rather than just carried out on an ad hoc project by project basis; Task Force: understanding users and digitisation priorities better; re-using and re-packaging existign material; embedding in teaching; partnerships and sustainability
- Embedding: What kind of systems and workflows do we need? What kind of technical infrastructure? No project-basis: processes, thinking long term, which teams need to be involved, prioritisation of content to be digitised… How can an institution extend and build on the skills, expertise, approaches learnt through a project? Or at least not loose them! Sustainability: partnerships? Services? Can institutions exploit their assets? Machines as well as human resources/expertise?
How do we provide more sophisticated searches functionalities?
