10. The Polish Museum, Rapperswil, was founded on October 23, 1870, by Polish Count Wladyslav Broel-Plater, at the urging of Agaton Giller, as "a refuge for [Poland's] historic memorabilia dishonored and plundered in the occupied Polish homeland" and for the promotion of Polish interests Our Swiss tour-guide Mr. Marcel Max Huder explained that the Polish Museum is housed in the Rapperswill Castle, atop that town's Herrenberg . The castle passed, together with the town, into the hands of the Habsburgs. Rapperswil became a free city ( Freie Reichsstadt ) in 1415, and eventually joined the Swiss Confederation. Over the course of time, the castle fell into disrepair.
11. If as a child you were enchanted by Johanna Spyri’s book, Heidi, then a stop in Maienfeld is a must. Here we visited the re-creation of what was supposedly Heidi’s village, located in the scenic mountain area that inspired the story. The area is very beautiful and here we followed a scenic path from Heididorf up into the high mountain pastures leading to places featured in the book. All is a bit contrived, but fun. Heidi House.
13. Our friend Marcel, whom we always called Marcello, is indeed an amazing character. For Gina & I, each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive. We immediately clicked off with Marcello and friendship was there for the taking. I remember my grandma saying “ new friendship is like an unripened fruit - it may become either an orange or a lemon“. Marcello proved to be a juicy orange indeed. He quickly appreciated the differences between his ways and ours. Marcello offered us both a full day trip, touring parts of Switzerland, with him as our tour leader and driver in his very own car. The following slides are proof of the organized excursion.
14. The places we passed through on our way to St. Moritz were many and if my memory is correct these were Landqart, Kloster, Davos, Flüela Pass ( in the canton of Graubunden ), Buchs, Zernez, Zuoz and so forth…
15. We must have covered over 400 kilometers, stopping at intervals to have lunch or just coffee and sweets. The Swiss cuisine is unique in its many regional influences from its neighbors' cuisine, including Italian, French and German cuisine.
16. St. Moritz in the Canton of Grisons is one of the best-known holiday resorts in the world. Chic, elegant and exclusive, with an extremely cosmopolitan air, the resort is located at an altitude of 1856 meters above sea level and surrounded by the beautiful lake landscape of the Upper Engadine.
17. In St. Moritz the sun shines 322 days a year. But even more legendary than that is St. Moritz's "champagne climate": sparkle and glamour, and international events attract top athletes, stars, statesmen and royal families to the health resort and hotels. The gastronomy, shopping and leisure facilities in this top Upper Engadine resort are accordingly exclusive.
