Violence is the number #2 cause of death of our children. 2nd only to car accidents. Its time to do something about it. The time to act is now. Can you help? Will you help? Contact me if you'd like to support Leave Out Violence. http://leaveoutviolence.org/newyork/ Leave Out ViolencE (aka LOVE), was created to attack the issue of violence from the inside out, and at a level where we are most vulnerable: with our youth, our kids, our children. LOVE is compassionate; designed for both victim and perpetrator. It has to be, for that is the cycle - and circle - of violence. The program works peer-to-peer, kid-to-kid, perp-to-perp. It works on many levels: social, societal, educational (the program is built inside of NYC public schools). LOVE is a rare organization because LOVE is helping solve the violence issue – by teaching kids how to eliminate violence from their lives. In the end, the answer is complex: Its cultural, behavioral, societal, social. Its not just guns, and its not just mental health. Its everything. But facts don't lie. Countries like Japan, Scotland or the greater UK have practically eliminated gun violence (in terms of both raw numbers and percentage). Part of their solution is strict gun control. And the results speak for themselves and those nations should be proud that so many lives have been saved. Facts don't lie. The US has more gun related deaths than the next 22 nations COMBINED. Guns are a huge part of this problem, but are clearly NOT the only part. Other than guns, what is so vastly different in the US versus every where else in the world (meaning ALL other civilized, first world, high income nations)? Are we really just the sickest nation? Have all these countries solved the mental heath issues? Do they regulate video games? Have they solved the poverty issue? Have they solved the broken family issue? Do they ban violent movies? Do they have extremely high rates of church attendance? The answer is no. They haven't and they don't. It's time to Act: Sign a petition. Write a letter to your congressman. Donate to Leave Out Violence. Volunteer. Speak up. Speak out. Ask your principal what their plan is. Help. Seize this moment with your action. Do something. Together we can stand up to violence. Battered husband syndrome has not been investigated in an Arab context, despite evidence of a significant increase in violence against men by women. This study investigated male victims’ experiences of female-perpetrated domestic abuse in Jordan using a qualitative exploratory descriptive approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 33 married men from Amman and analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Five themes were identified: 1. causes of domestic abuse against men; 2. types of domestic abuse against men; 3. effects of domestic abuse against men; 4. men’s perception of reducing or stopping abuse by their wives; and 5. abusive wives’ characteristics. Participants experienced psychological, emotional and verbal abuse, coercive control, emotional neglect, and physical violence with varying degrees of severity, which affected both them and their families. Abusive wives used numerous tactics, including sex, children, isolation, and money to enable abuse. Moreover, clan and traditional thinking, societal structures, and norms led participants to divorce, stay in an abusive relationship, or use violence against their wives. The leading causes of abuse against the husband were wives’ neglecting the house, children, appearance, and personal hygiene; wasting money; wives’ family interfering in the couple’s private marital affairs; the wife’s betrayal; and traditional thinking. New perspectives toward domestic abuse in Jordan need to be developed to help us better understand the nature of abuse against men, provide resources and support for them, reduce the prevalence of domestic abuse, and protect Jordanian families.

Hespanha Giovanna Hespanha English Composition II 13 June 2021 Discrimination Against LGBT Community Audience: People who believe homosexuality is wrong and people who do not have much information about it. The human being is born endowed with biological characteristics that frame him as a male or female individual. In this context, several sexual behaviors diverge from this established biologic pattern, which causes social conflicts such as prejudice and exclusion. It occurs not only because of the attitudes of gender intolerance present in society but also because of the pre-established roles imposed on the individual. There is an undeniable feature about an old, and very well-established power relationship as a pillar of society, especially that considered western: oppression. Silent or scandalous, shrewd or disguised as legitimate – for some – it is still present, certainly persistent in the “modern” era, after so many centuries of patient construction to define and segregate the oppressed and the oppressors. Throughout history, the resistance and struggle of minorities against a system that only tends to fortify the dehumanization of human beings who differ from the oppressor in any respect are remarkable. The struggle of blacks, women, and, more recently, sexual and gender diversity has already been seen. The latter is perhaps the strongest that will shake the pyramid for a simple fact: sexuality or even the lack of it, as well as complex gender issues, are inherent in human nature and can be repressed and even shaped – suppressed exclamations – by heteronomy and its companion “cissexism”, which dictates the existence of only two genders defined by the individual's genitalia at birth. It is important to emphasize that hetero norm and cisgender existence are deeply rooted oppression in society that broken, corrupts, and compromise the revolting stability of the pyramid, and favoring unsettle the oppressor, making him try at all costs to legitimize them to the base of the most diverse and absurd fallacies. This attempt that shows success in religious, moralistic, and conservative discourses, extends to the mainstream media, schools and reaffirming itself in homes and family circles, to silence and repress - even with the use of violence – something so fundamental to all of us: the freedom to be. Moonlight: under the moonlight, was considered the best film of the year 2017 by the Oscars, the movie portrays the dramas lived by the protagonist Chiron, among them, the discovery of his sexuality and the offenses suffered due to it. This scenario was recurrent for me because I also live daily with prejudice and hatred. Alan Turing, the father of computing, who contributed to unraveling the Nazi codes and, consequently, shortening wartime, had his life ended by chemical castration as punishment for being gay at that time. In this context, this deep-rooted discrimination persists and, mainly, because of a conservative wave supported by the Ev ...
