A. Motivation
Good morning class!
Good morning ma’am!
Are you familiar with these lines?
Once upon a time in a faraway land….
and
And they lived happily ever after…
Yes ma’am!
Where do you think these lines can be found?
Yes ma’am. Those lines can be found from
fairytale stories.
Very good. What comes into your mind when
you hear the word fairy tale?
Magic
Princess
Prince
Witch
Fairy Godmother
Great. Are you familiar with some fairy tale
stories?
Yes ma’am.
Good. Let’s see if you really know. Okay, so I
will show to you some pictures. Then you are
going to fill up what is the missing phrase. Did
you understand?
Snow White ate the apple which has a poison that the witch gave to her
so________________.
Who is in the picture?
Snow White and the witch.
So based from the story, what do you think
happened to Snow White after eating the
apple? What is the correct phrase that will fit
the sentence?
She fell asleep.
Very good. So Snow White feel asleep after
eating the apple.
Snow White ate the apple which has a poison that the witch gave to her so she fell
asleep.
Very good. How about this picture?
Princess Aurora was awakened from long years of sleeping because
________________________.
What do you think happened why Princess
Aurora woke up from long years of sleeping?
What is the correct phrase that will fit the
sentence?
The prince kissed her.
Princess Aurora was awakened from long years of sleeping because the prince kissed her.
Very well. Now,let’s read again the sentences
we made.
1. Snow White ate the apple which has a poison that the witch gave to her so she fell
asleep.
2. Princess Aurora woke up from long years of sleeping because the prince kissed her.
B. Presentation ofthe Lesson
As you notice, the sentences were highlighted
in three colors. We are going to find out why I
highlighted the sentences in three colors. Do
they mean something? Well, let us find out.
C. Discussion
The sentences highlighted in color yellow are
the cause. What comes into your mind when
you hear the word cause?
Reason why something happens.
Root
Source
Origin
Good ideas. So cause answers the question
WHY something happens. Let’s refer it
to sentences we made.
So, why did Snow White fell asleep?
Because she ate the apple that the witch
gave to her.
Very good. The reason why she fell asleep is
because she ate the apple that the witch gave
to her. So cause is the reason, the root, the
source and the origin.
Why was Sleeping beauty awakened?
Because the prince kissed her.
Very good. The reason why she was awakened
is because she ate the apple that the witch
gave to her.
Thus, CAUSE answers the question why
something happens. What about this
sentence? What do you think is the cause?
Marilan study hard that’s why she
graduated with honors.
Marilan study hard.
Very good. The reason why she graduated
with honors is because she studied hard. Okay,
so do you understand what is cause now?
Yes ma’am
Cause is?
The reason why something happens. It is the
source, origin and root.
Brilliant. You learn fast. Now let’s take our
attention to the sentences highlighted in color
pink. If we have cause, what do you think the
other phrases called? Any guess?
Effect
Very good. The effect! So what comes into
your mind when you hear the word effect?
Result
Consequence
Outcome
Product
Good ideas. Effect answers the question what
happen next? Just like in our examples.
What happen when Snow White ate the apple
that has a poison?
She fell asleep.
She fell asleep is the effect because it answers
the question what happen next after doing that
action.
What happen when the prince kissed Aurora?
She was awakened.
She was awakened is the effect or the result
of the kiss. Thus, we can conclude that effect
answers the question what happen next? Were
you able to differentiate the two?
Yes ma’am. Cause answers the question
Why something happens while Effect
answers the question what happen next?
Let’s check your understanding. What is the
effect in this sentence? He didn’t brush take a
bath that’s why his classmates are avoiding
him.
His classmates are avoiding him.
Very good. So what is an effect again?
Effect answers the question what happen
next. It is the result, consequence, outcome
and product.
Now, take a look at the sentences
highlighted in color green. What do you
think are the words so and because?
Conjunctions
Yes,they are conjunctions and also called clue
words because they signal the causes and
effects. Now,will you name me other
conjunctions or clue words?
for, because, since, therefore, hence, as a
result, consequently, due to, because of, as a
result of
Very good. So these are some expressions
which signal causes and effects.
So, written in the board are some expressions
which signal causes. Will you read?
Because
Since
for
Very good. Now will you use in your own
sentences the following expressions?
Because of drinking too much alcohol, he
died with lung cancer.
Since he did not eat his breakfast, her
stomach aches.
He was awarded as the most punctual, for
he always go to school early.
Very good. So, these are some expressions
that signal causes. How about the expressions
that signal effects. Will you read?
As a consequence
As a result
Hence
So
Consequently
Therefore
Thus
Okay, will you use in your sentences the
following expressions?
He is known to be a fraudulent person; as a
consequence, his testimony was nullified.
He studied hard, as a result he become a
successfullawyer.
I always take a bath hence I have so many
friends.
He was an unfaithful guy so his girlfriend
broke up with him.
I lost my wallet; consequently I don’t have
money to buy snacks.
He was sick therefore he doesn’t go to
school.
I left my umbrella at home thus I went
home wet because of the rain.
Very good. So did you understand our lesson
today?
Yes ma’am.
Did you understand? Now let’s have an
activity. I have here a crown and a blank head
of a princess. The crown contains the cause
and the blank head contains the effect. I need
10 guys and 10 girls in front. Here what will
you do. I will distribute to the boys the crowns
and the heads to the girls. The mechanics of
our game is that you are going to roam around
to find which crown and head fits perfectly.
As you notice, there are sentences written in
the head and crown. You are going find for
your partner to formulate a correct pair of
cause and effect.
“CAUSE this is your EFFECT to me”
(attached at the back)
(students will find for their pairs)
Okay, do they found their correct pair class?
Let us check. Everybody read.
(students will evaluate the pair of face and
crown that was made)
D. Generalization
Okay class, did you understand our
lesson today?
Yes ma’am.
What is cause again?
The root, source, origin and reason. It
answers the question why something
happens.
How about effect?
It is the product, result, consequence or
outcome. It answers the question what
happens next.
Good. How about the different
expressions?
There are many different expressions that
signals causes and effects. Some of them are
because,so, therefore,thus and many more.
Why do you think we need to know
the cause and effect?
Because causes and effectsare part of our
lives. Example, in making decisions or in
taking some actions, we need to think first
for whatever consequences it may gave.
Brilliant. So cause and effects serves
as a reminder that we should think
first for possible consequences to
whatever actions we are planning to
do.
IV. Evaluation

DRAW the possible effect in Column B. Make your drawings clear and easy to
