3. DEFINITION OF ROOTS
• Roots are usually underground
so we cant notice them.
• Roots takes up same space
as ground parts of plant.
4. FUNCTION OF ROOTS
• Roots absorb water and minerals from soil.
• Roots hold plant firmly and when wind blows plant will not blow up.
• Some of the plant store and make food in roots.
• When conditions are hard as in winter and in dry summers the roots allow
plant to die the upper part of plant.

Soil is made up of tiny particles.
There are spaces in them.
In spaces there is water.
And in water is dissolved minerals.
Special cells are root hair cells and are grown out of surface of roots.
Root hair cells provide large surface area though they absorb water and
minerals.
