Arabic (plural) of Adab : meanings – “good breeding, decency,
nurture, good manners, refinement, cultured, decorum, courteous,
etiquette, propriety, social grace, to educate, discipline, the
humanities, etc.” sense of proportion and knowledge of their rightful
place in the order of things, the absence of which indicates injustice

Insha’Allah -This is a follow-up course, after completion
of 18 weeks course on the kitab “Ta’lim al-Muta’allim
Tariqit Ta’allum ” of Sheikh Tajuddin Nu’man Zarnuji

By retracing our life, we start with understanding
our basic nature as a human being - having
inherent powers and their potentialities to be
developed.

In our relationship regarding our Education – we
are to encounter, i.e. assisted by our educators -

with what is referred to as, “knowledge”.



Yet, we are born helpless and have to be cared,
nurtured, to be inculcated with discipline, taught and
developed by a Murabbi’ (EDUCATOR) – the first of
whom are our PARENTS.

HUBBULLAAH


Say [O Prophet]: "If you love Allah, follow me, [and]
Allah will love you and forgive you your sins; for Allah is
much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace.“
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 31)


Say: “(Obey) Pay heed unto Allah and the Messenger”
And if they turn away - verily, Allah does not love those
who deny the truth.“


“And yet there are people who choose to believe
in beings that allegedly rival Allah, loving them as
[only] Allah should be loved: whereas those who
have attained to faith, love Allah more than all
else. If they who are bent on evildoing could but
see - as see they will when they are made to
suffer [on Resurrection Day] -that all might
belongs to Allah alone, and that Allah is severe in
[meting out] punishment!”
(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 165)


“Say: "If your fathers and your sons and your
brothers and your spouses and your clan, and the
worldly goods which you have acquired, and the
commerce whereof you fear a decline, and the
dwellings in which you take pleasure - [if all these]
are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger
and the struggle in His cause, then wait until Allah
makes manifest His will; and [know that] Allah
does not grace iniquitous folk with His guidance."”
(Qur’an: Taubah: 9: 24)


“(Strive to) Love Allah, Who has bestowed much provision
and favours upon you. And (strive to) love me because of
your love for Allah. And (strive to) love my Household
(family) because of your love for me.”
(Hadith reported by al-Hakim from Ibnu ‘Abbas r.a.)


“O Allah! Grant us the love for You, and the love for
Your Messenger Muhammad s.a.a.w., and the love
towards whoever has love for You, and make us to love
doing every deeds which can bring us towards Your
Nearness, and make us to love You more than our love
for cool (drinking) water.”


• How is our pursuit of Education as Fardh ‘ain obligation?

• Has it been done? Is it still being done? How is it being done?

• What has been the aim, attitude and approach?

• Does it include and fulfill the Adab?

• Remember it is not merely the amount (quantum) but importantly
the proper order; emphasizing the priority, difference categories of
knowledge; regarding weightage and value; the state or conditions of
Muslim student; etc.


• Thus it must not be mere learning of subjects but must have specific
objectives i.e. towards fulfilment of obligations which has to be carried
out in our Being (thoughts, words and deeds).

• These obligations are very dependent upon our situation and state
of Being (spiritual condition – ‘HAAL’ or station ‘MAQOM’).

• The quantum may be increased and more importantly, the quality of
being in a particular state of our soul - may always change. Faith (Iiman)
may increase/decrease; doubts, heedlessness, distractions may occur
etc.

• An important bestowal that we seek from Allah in this pursuit
towards excellence is “Istiqomah ” – when Allah grant us firmness in
our station thus attained.

• It begins with the most basic state of Islam (submission), which
one gradually progresses towards higher stations, culminating with
TAQWA – the state which Allah distinguishes difference in nobility
amongst mankind.


• It begins with fixed principle personal obligation FARDH ‘AIN, to be
gradually implemented by each Muslim. As he/she develops and has to
assume greater responsibility in life (commensurate with his/her
ability), then what becomes obligatory would further grow and must be
expanded accordingly – as in the axiom:

“Every knowledge (and skills), for which an obligation cannot be
fulfilled except by (possessing) it (i.e. knowledge and skill),
its acquisition is (therefore) obligatory (waajib ).”
-A principle in Islamic jurisprudence.

male and a female, and have made you into nations
and tribes, so that you might come to know one
another. Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of Allah
is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him
(TAQWA). Behold, Allah is all-knowing, all-aware.”
(Qur’an: Hujurat: 49: 13)


THE BEDOUIN say, “We have attained to faith.” Say
[unto them, O Muhammad]: “You have not [yet]
attained to faith; you should [rather] say, ‘We have
[outwardly] surrendered’ - for [true] faith has not yet
entered your hearts. But if you [truly] pay heed (obey)
unto Allah and His Messenger, He will not let the least
of your deeds go to waste: for, behold, Allah is much-
forgiving, a dispenser of grace.”“


“I am the Most Beloved of Allah, and this is not to boast.
And I will be the bearer of the banner of “The Praise” on
the Day of Judgement under which will follow Prophet
Adam and all who came after him, and this is not to boast.”
(Hadith reported by Tirmidzi)


“O YOU who have attained to faith! Why do you say one
thing and do another? Most loathsome is it in the sight
of Allah that you say what you do not do!

Verily, Allah loves [only] those who fight in His cause in
[solid] ranks (SwAFFAN), as though they were a building
firm and compact (BUN-YAA-NAN-MAR-SwUSw).“
(Qur’an: Saff: 61: 2-4)


“Hence, if two groups of believers fall to fighting, make
peace between them; but then, if one of the two
[groups] goes on acting wrongfully towards the other,
fight against the one that acts wrongfully until it reverts
to Allah’s commandment; and if they revert, make peace
between them with justice (BIL-’ADL), and (AQSITwU)
deal equitably [with them]: for verily, Allah loves those
who act equitably (MUQSITwEEN)!.“


But if thou dost judge, judge between them with equity
(BIL-QISTw): verily, Allah loves those who act equitably
(MUQ-SI-TwEEN).“
(Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 42)


“And know that Allah’s Messenger is among you:
were he to comply with your inclinations in each and
every case, you would be bound to come to harm [as
a community]. But as it is, Allah has caused [your]
faith (IIMAN) to be dear to you, and has given it
beauty in your hearts, and has made hateful to you
all denial of the truth, and all iniquity, and all
rebellion [against what is good]. Such indeed are
they who follow the right course”


ALLAA-HUM-MA HA-BIB-
I-LAI -NAL – II - MAN

"O Allah! Endear love in our hearts with

the True Faith (al- iiman)”

(Hadith reported by An-Nasa’i)

QU – LOO – BI - NAA

“And make it (our Faith) to be beautiful

(and as a precious ornament) in our hearts”



WA – KAR-RAH - ILAI-NAL – KUF-RA WAL
FU- SOO-QA - WAL- ISW- YAAN

“And make us hateful of KUFR (every forms of unbelief),
FU-SUUQ (every wickedness) and

ISw-YAAN (rebelliousness against truth & goodness)”


WAJ - ‘ALA - NAA MI-NAR -
RAA - SHI - DEEN

“And make us to amongst those who

are RAA-SHI-DUUN (the Rightly Guided)”



“And spend [freely] in Allah's cause, and let not your
own hands throw you into destruction; and persevere
in doing good (AHSINU): behold, Allah loves the doers
of good (MUHSINEEN).“


“And vie with one another to attain to your
Sustainer's forgiveness and to a paradise as vast as
the heavens and the earth, which has been readied
for the God-conscious (MUT-TAQEEN) who spend [in
His way] in time of plenty and in time of hardship,
and hold in check their anger, and pardon their
fellow-men because Allah loves the doers of good
(MUHSINEEN);”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 133-134)


“… then, when thou hast decided upon a course of action,
place thy trust in Allah: for, verily, Allah loves those who
place their trust in Him (MUTAWAK-KILEEN).“


" Verily, Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance
(TAWWABEEN) and He loves those who keep themselves
pure (MUTA-TwAH-HIREEN).“


“And how many a prophet has had to fight [in
Allah's cause], followed by many God-devoted
men (ROBBA-NIYUN): and they did not become
faint of heart for all that they had to suffer in
Allah's cause, and neither did they weaken, nor
did they abase themselves [before the enemy],
since Allah loves those who are patient in
adversity (SwOBIREEN);“


“Nay, but [Allah is aware of] those who (‘AHD) keep their
bond with Him, and are conscious of Him (TAQWA): and,
verily, Allah loves those who are conscious of Him (MUT-
TAQEEN)“


“If you avoid the great sins (KABA-IR), which you have been
enjoined to shun, We shall efface your [minor] bad deeds, and
shall cause you to enter an abode of glory.“
(Qur’an: An-Nisa’: 3: 31)


“O you who have attained to faith! If you ever
(MURTAD) abandon your faith," Allah will in time bring
forth [in your stead] people whom He loves and who
love Him - humble towards the believers, powerful
(stern) towards all who deny the truth: [people] who
(YUJAAHIDU) strive hard in Allah's cause, and do not
fear to be censured by anyone who might censure them:
such is Allah's favour, which He grants unto whom He
wills. And Allah is infinite, all-knowing.”
(Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 54)


“Whoever wants to be loved by Allah and His Messenger, let him
be truthful (honest) in speech, and fulfill every trust (has been
entrusted) and who do not cause any disturbance to his neighbour.”
(Hadith reported by Baihaqy)


“Verily, Allah Most Exalted says: ‘Whoever becomes
enemy towards my WALIYY (friends – saintly servants), I
shall permit war to be waged against them. And when my
servant seek to draw nearness to Me - there is nothing
more beloved to me than by their fulfilling those things
that are obligatory (FARDHU) to them. And when they
continue to seek nearness by increase in superagatory
acts (NAWAFIL) until I will begin to love him …. ”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)


“….. and when I love him, I shall be His ears when he
listens, and I shall be his eyes when he sees, and I shall
be his hands when he fetches (or does things), and I
shall be his feet when he walks. When he asks
(requests) for anything I shall grant it, and when he
seeks refuge, I shall protect him.”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)
