AL-ISLAMAL-ISLAM ”.”.

They are confused because they could not differentiate “the religionThey are confused because they could not differentiate “the religion
((DEENDEEN)” itself from people’s “understanding ()” itself from people’s “understanding (FIQHFIQH)” of the religion –)” of the religion –
between “between “DEENUL-ISLAMDEENUL-ISLAM” with “” with “FIQHUL-ISLAMFIQHUL-ISLAM”.”.
Past Muslim scholars are ever careful not to be presumptuousPast Muslim scholars are ever careful not to be presumptuous
(arrogant even) to claim their(arrogant even) to claim their FIQHFIQH to be theto be the DEENDEEN..
ThisThis DEENDEEN belongs to Allah s.w.t. whereas man can only claim to hisbelongs to Allah s.w.t. whereas man can only claim to his
FIQHFIQH of theof the DeenDeen..

Therefore thisTherefore this DEENDEEN is the “is the “AbsoluteAbsolute” as Allah s.w.t. is Absolute, and” as Allah s.w.t. is Absolute, and
those who doubt or deny this has not understood the clear assertion ofthose who doubt or deny this has not understood the clear assertion of

But,But, AL-ISLAMAL-ISLAM is not man-created but a revealed religion from a Divineis not man-created but a revealed religion from a Divine

Another fallacy is to equate “Another fallacy is to equate “KAAFFAHKAAFFAH” with “” with “SHUMULSHUMUL”, as though”, as though
these are interchangeable.these are interchangeable.
Surely there is need to differentiate betweenSurely there is need to differentiate between AL-ISLAMAL-ISLAM the (perfected)the (perfected)
DEENDEEN and theand the MUSLIMSMUSLIMS, who are far from being perfect., who are far from being perfect.

““KAAFFAHKAAFFAH” (sufficiently, whole-heartedly, fully etc.) pertains to man’s” (sufficiently, whole-heartedly, fully etc.) pertains to man’s
potential and capability. And Allah only expects the Muslims to givepotential and capability. And Allah only expects the Muslims to give
their fullest, for Allah does not put a burden greater than they cantheir fullest, for Allah does not put a burden greater than they can
bear.bear.
““SHUMULSHUMUL” (or all-encompassing nature of” (or all-encompassing nature of AD-DEEN AL-ISLAMAD-DEEN AL-ISLAM) on the) on the
other hand, pertains to the perfect and Absolute aspect of Allah’sother hand, pertains to the perfect and Absolute aspect of Allah’s
guidance, the fundamental rules and laws established by His finalguidance, the fundamental rules and laws established by His final
Prophet s.a.w.Prophet s.a.w.

It’s guiding principles and teachings are already perfectedIt’s guiding principles and teachings are already perfected
((KAAMILKAAMIL) and which encompasses every aspect of man’s life, with) and which encompasses every aspect of man’s life, with
adequate principles for dynamism in its implementation to faceadequate principles for dynamism in its implementation to face
whatever possible problem that the future may hold for mankind.whatever possible problem that the future may hold for mankind.
This is because, if it is not all-encompassing “This is because, if it is not all-encompassing “SHUMULSHUMUL ”, then”, then
another Prophet would be needed, and this in fact is a denial ofanother Prophet would be needed, and this in fact is a denial of
the perfection ofthe perfection of AD-DEEN-AL-ISLAMAD-DEEN-AL-ISLAM –– itit tantamount to ‘unbelief’tantamount to ‘unbelief’
((KUFRKUFR).).

They purport : “They purport : “that since Muslim’s understanding of Islam isthat since Muslim’s understanding of Islam is
“evolving” towards a much better understanding of Islam than“evolving” towards a much better understanding of Islam than
Muslims of previous past generations, therefore even the core-Muslims of previous past generations, therefore even the core-
fundamental teachings of “fundamental teachings of “AD-DEENUL-ISLAMAD-DEENUL-ISLAM ” must continue to be” must continue to be
changed (evolved) just like as had happened as in in other religion’schanged (evolved) just like as had happened as in in other religion’s
historical “historical “reformationreformation”. This is not only inaccurate, erroneous but”. This is not only inaccurate, erroneous but
downright mischievous.downright mischievous.
As we have stated, there is a difference between “As we have stated, there is a difference between “SHARI’AHSHARI’AH””
(literally the “(literally the “Way or SourceWay or Source” of the religion) core-fundamental” of the religion) core-fundamental
teachings, and another term “teachings, and another term “FIQHFIQH” (the Islamic scholars’” (the Islamic scholars’

The core-fundamental teachings of “The core-fundamental teachings of “AD-DEENUL-ISLAMAD-DEENUL-ISLAM” have been” have been
perfected and it is comprehensive enough to provide the basis forperfected and it is comprehensive enough to provide the basis for
every Muslim to seek solutions to whatever problem that arose.every Muslim to seek solutions to whatever problem that arose.
As regards its application, which must take into consideration theAs regards its application, which must take into consideration the
changing context,changing context, AD-DEENUL-ISLAMAD-DEENUL-ISLAM already allows for differingalready allows for differing
interpretations and application of these principles by theinterpretations and application of these principles by the ULAMA’ULAMA’
(Islamic scholars), to the specific problems their community is facing(Islamic scholars), to the specific problems their community is facing
in every age or conditions – as long as it does not contradict orin every age or conditions – as long as it does not contradict or

Each era requires it’s own unique solution. If Muslims scholarsEach era requires it’s own unique solution. If Muslims scholars
attained to correct interpretation based upon theirattained to correct interpretation based upon their FIQHFIQH, than that is, than that is
regarded as good, irrespective of whether it is done in the past or inregarded as good, irrespective of whether it is done in the past or in

Lest people get carried away by trends set by people today whoLest people get carried away by trends set by people today who
instigate for change or renewal, - we must remember to beinstigate for change or renewal, - we must remember to be
discerning as to what can and what cannot, be changed.discerning as to what can and what cannot, be changed.

nor imply “nor imply “replacementreplacement” of” of AD-DEEN-UL-ISLAMAD-DEEN-UL-ISLAM’s principle teachings –’s principle teachings –

These ‘These ‘academicianacademicianss’ would not admit that their methodology –’ would not admit that their methodology – whichwhich
is from a humanist sociological study and perspectiveis from a humanist sociological study and perspective – (– ( Not of IslamNot of Islam))
is in fact imposing a false parallel, advocating that contemporaryis in fact imposing a false parallel, advocating that contemporary
Muslims should imitate the ‘Muslims should imitate the ‘Judeo-ChristianJudeo-Christian’ historical experience.’ historical experience.
Their error may perhaps be due to their assuming that “Their error may perhaps be due to their assuming that “ALAL-ISLAM-ISLAM” is” is
exactly similar to (if not implying that Islam is copying from earlierexactly similar to (if not implying that Islam is copying from earlier
religions ), and therefore must inevitably undergo the same historicalreligions ), and therefore must inevitably undergo the same historical
process as that of the “process as that of the “Judeo-ChristianJudeo-Christian” – indeed a mischievous” – indeed a mischievous

“Now then, for that (reason), call (them to the Faith), and
stand steadfast as thou art commanded nor follow thou
their vain desires; but say: "I believe in the Book which
Allah has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly
between you. Allah is Our Lord and your Lord. For us (is
the responsibility for) Our deeds, and for you for your
deeds. There is no contention between us and you. Allah
will bring us together, and to Him is (Our) final goal.”
(Qur’an: ash-Shura: 42: 15)

A person is expected tois expected to enter into it willingly, with full certainty
of the basic truth that there is no god except Allah and that
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
Those who are born into a Muslim family needs to be nurtured
with the correct understanding of Islam to attain certainty .

Thus, the declaration marks a person’s commitment towards
adhering to all that Islam teaches.
It is in fact a covenant between him and Allah – to be witnessed
at least by other Muslims because he will be accorded every
rights and respect as fellow Muslims; as much as other Muslims
have rights over him.

Amongst these are for Muslims to exhort one another towardsAmongst these are for Muslims to exhort one another towards
truth and patient constancy; makingtruth and patient constancy; making DU’ADU’A for one another;for one another;
protecting each others rights and dignity; assisting in all mattersprotecting each others rights and dignity; assisting in all matters
leading toleading to AL-BIRRAL-BIRR (Goodness) and(Goodness) and AL-TAQWAAL-TAQWA (consciousness of(consciousness of
Allah) with love for one another for the sake of Allah.Allah) with love for one another for the sake of Allah.
When a person enters or embraces Islam, his/her past sins areWhen a person enters or embraces Islam, his/her past sins are
forgiven and erased whereas merit of al their good deeds remainsforgiven and erased whereas merit of al their good deeds remains
(including now also, merit of repentance of those past sins). This is(including now also, merit of repentance of those past sins). This is
similar to Muslims whose repentance have been accepted by Allah.similar to Muslims whose repentance have been accepted by Allah.

can occur only by Allah’s permission.
