After assuring us of His nearness, the focus now is with the subjectAfter assuring us of His nearness, the focus now is with the subject

point, that the true satisfaction to the question asked, indeed ispoint, that the true satisfaction to the question asked, indeed is in ourin our

Allah SWT assures us clearly also that He indeed responds to theAllah SWT assures us clearly also that He indeed responds to the

Yet, Allah SWT here also is guiding us with His stipulation for HisYet, Allah SWT here also is guiding us with His stipulation for His

DU’ADU’A withwith IIMANIIMAN must entail avoidance of every forms ofmust entail avoidance of every forms of SHIRKSHIRK
(Association; setting up rivals or partners to Allah) – because(Association; setting up rivals or partners to Allah) – because DU’ADU’A isis
essentialessential ‘IBAADAH.‘IBAADAH.

AD-DU-’AA – MUAD-DU-’AA – MUKHKH--KHKHUL- ‘IBAA - DAA-TUL- ‘IBAA - DAA-T
““AD-DU’AAD-DU’A (Supplication) is the marrow (essence) of(Supplication) is the marrow (essence) of
AL-‘IBADAHAL-‘IBADAH (worship, servitude).”(worship, servitude).”

““AD-DU’AAD-DU’A (Supplication) is (itself)(Supplication) is (itself)

LESSONS FROM A DU’A TAUGHT BY IMAM ‘ALI R.A.
Ibn Tawus in “Muhaj al-Dawat” and Kafami in “al-Misbah”
narrate this (Du’a) supplication on the authority of Imam Ali (as)
who learnt it from the Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ (peace and blessings
be upon him and his progeny). The Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬advised
him to recite this (Du’a) supplication regularly, whether in
prosperity or poverty, till death, because it unveils the secrets of
creation and divine strategy.
This (Du’a) supplication is recommended for the removal of all
troubles and worries, and it is recommended that it be
performed with ablution (wudhu’).
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,
MOST COMPASSIONATE,
MOST MERCIFUL.

All praise is due to Allah. There is no god but He,
the King, the Truth that makes all things manifest
LESSONS FROM A DU’A TAUGHT BY IMAM ‘ALI R.A.IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,
MOST COMPASSIONATE,
MOST MERCIFUL.

He is the Administrator without any minister and
without consultation with any of his servants.

He is the First, who cannot be described.

He is Eternal and will live forever, (even) after the
annihilation of all creatures.

He is the greatest Cherisher and Sustainer.

the Light of the earths and heavens and their
Creator and Maker out of nothing.
He created both of them without any pillars and
separated them – a proper separation.

Thus the heavens became stable in obedience to
His commandment

and the earths became fixed on the surface of the
water with their pegs

Then our Lord subdued the high heavens

The Most Gracious is firmly established on the
throne (of authority)

Everything that is in heaven and in the earth and
in between them and what is below the earth
belongs to Him.

So, I bear witness that verily You are Allah. There
is none to elevate what You have lowered

And no one to lower what You have elevated

and no one to exalt him whom
You leave in disgrace

and no one to bring into disgrace him
whom You exalt

and no one to prevent him upon whom
You bestow Your favour

and no one to bestow anything, which
You have withheld.

You are Allah, there is no god but You

Who existed when there was neither the stable
sky nor the broad earth

nor the brilliant sun nor the dark night,
nor the bright day,

nor the vast and stormy sea, nor any sublime and
stable mountain,

nor any revolving planet, nor the luminous moon,

nor any blowing wind, nor any raining cloud,

nor any breathing soul, nor any flying bird,

nor any blazing fire, nor any flowing water.

You existed before the existence of everything

and You created everything

and controlled everything

and originated everything.

You enriched some and reduced others to poverty,

caused some to die and brought others to life,

and made some people glad and others weep.

Verily You rule from the Throne.

You are of vast blessing, O Allah
You are Great and Supreme.

You are Allah and there is no god other than You.

You are the Creator and Supporter

Your Decree is overpowering and
Your Knowledge is operative.

Your strategy is wonderful; Your promise is true;

Your word is right; Your command is just;

Your utterance is right guidance;
Your Revelation is light;

Your mercy is vast and abundant;
Your forgiveness is superb;

Your grace is overflowing;
Your gift is most respectable

Your cord is strong; Your might is ever ready

Your protégé is powerful; Your wrath is severe;
and Your stratagem is entrapping

O Lord! With You are lodged all complaints.

You are present in all gatherings,

and are the witness of all secrets,

and the ultimate goal of all supplications,

the expeller of all sorrows,

the affluence of every needy person,

the stronghold for every refugee,

security for everyone who is terror-stricken,

a shield for the weak, a treasure for the indigent,

the destroyer of grief, the helper of the virtuous.

Such is Allah, our Lord. There is no god but He.

You satisfy such of Your servants as trust unto You.

You are the protector of him who is firmly attached
to You and humiliates himself before You,

a shield for him who seeks refuge with You,

the help of him who looks up to You for help,

the forgiver of sins for him who begs
for Your pardon,

the compeller of the tyrants,

the most grand of the grand,

the most great of the great,

the master of masters,

the Lord of lords,

the Succour of the grieved,

the Helper of those crying for help,,

the Responder to the call of the distressed,

the best of all listeners,

the best of all observers,

the best of all judges,

the most swift of reckoners,

the most merciful of all the merciful

the best of all forgivers,

the satisfier of the needs of the faithful,

and the hearer of the appeals of the virtuous.

You are Allah, there is no god but You. You are the
Cherisher and Sustainer of all the worlds

You are the Creator and I am a creature.

You are the Master and I am a servant,

You are the Lord and I am a slave.

You are the Provider while I am provided
with sustenance,

You are the Giver while I am a beggar,

You are the Generous while I am a miser.

You are the Mighty while I am weak,

You are the Noble while I am humble.

You are the independent while I am needy.

You are the Master while I am a slave.

You are the Forgiver of sins while I am sinful.

You are the Omniscient while I am ignorant.

You are the forbearing while I am hasty.

You are the All-Merciful and I have been treated
with mercy.

You are the Provider of safety but
I am involved in suffering.

You are the Responder and I am the distressed.

And I bear witness that verily You are Allah,
there is no god but You

You bestow favours upon Your slaves even without
their asking.

And I bear witness that verily You are Allah,
the One, the Peerless,

and verily to You we must return.

May the blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad and
his family the holy and pure.

O Lord, forgive my sins

and extend to me Your special mercy
and bounteous sustenance

O the All-merciful!

All praise is due to Allah the Cherisher
and sustainer of all the worlds

And Allah is sufficient for us and
most excellent is the Protector.

There is neither might nor power but with Allah
the Great, the Exalted.

““O YOU whoO YOU who have attained to faithhave attained to faith ((IIMANIIMAN)! Fasting is ordained for)! Fasting is ordained for
you as it was ordained for those before you,you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you might learnso that you might learn
self-restraintself-restraint (being conscious and fear Allah -(being conscious and fear Allah - TAQWATAQWA):”):”

““Allah wills that you shall have ease, and does not will you to sufferAllah wills that you shall have ease, and does not will you to suffer
hardship;hardship; but [He desires] that you complete the number [of days requiredbut [He desires] that you complete the number [of days required],],
andand that you extol Allah for His having guided you arightthat you extol Allah for His having guided you aright, and that, and that youyou
render your thanksrender your thanks [unto Him] –[unto Him] – TASH-KURUN – (SHAKUR)TASH-KURUN – (SHAKUR).”.”

a bargain that will save you from grievous suffering [in thisa bargain that will save you from grievous suffering [in this

and His Messengerand His Messenger, and to, and to strive hard in Allah's cause withstrive hard in Allah's cause with
your possessions and your livesyour possessions and your lives: this is for your own good -: this is for your own good -
if you but knew it! [If you do so,] He will forgive you yourif you but knew it! [If you do so,] He will forgive you your
sins, and [in the life to come] will admit you into gardenssins, and [in the life to come] will admit you into gardens
through which running waters flow, and into goodlythrough which running waters flow, and into goodly
mansions in [those] gardens of perpetual bliss:mansions in [those] gardens of perpetual bliss: that [willthat [will

Although they know that they are fasting, yet the real lessons, theAlthough they know that they are fasting, yet the real lessons, the

Ramadhan escapes them. Not that Allah wants to deprive them ofRamadhan escapes them. Not that Allah wants to deprive them of
many of His Blessings, but it is they, due to their own neglect andmany of His Blessings, but it is they, due to their own neglect and
heedlessness, who caused their own loss.heedlessness, who caused their own loss.

selvesselves: and [know] that Allah is all-Hearing, all-Seeing.”: and [know] that Allah is all-Hearing, all-Seeing.”

perception (or rather misperception) of what Ramadhan is all about.perception (or rather misperception) of what Ramadhan is all about.
The media, the trend-setter, the sales pitch, the commercialisationThe media, the trend-setter, the sales pitch, the commercialisation
of Ramadhan etc. may replaced what should be (of Ramadhan etc. may replaced what should be (IIMANIIMAN) Faith as) Faith as
theirtheir motivationmotivation and (and (IHTISAABANIHTISAABAN) expecting Allah’s acceptance, as) expecting Allah’s acceptance, as
theirtheir attitudeattitude..

Rather than to regard ‘Ramadhan’ as something seasonal, we mustRather than to regard ‘Ramadhan’ as something seasonal, we must
correct this wrong attitude. Ramadhan in fact can be liken to acorrect this wrong attitude. Ramadhan in fact can be liken to a
“Madrasah (school)”. Surely every year we should progress to“Madrasah (school)”. Surely every year we should progress to
higher levels of attainment. Unfortunately many seem contented tohigher levels of attainment. Unfortunately many seem contented to
remain stagnated at ‘kindergarten’ level each time, without any realremain stagnated at ‘kindergarten’ level each time, without any real
assessment of achievement, but merely based upon attendance.assessment of achievement, but merely based upon attendance.
Thus, year in year out, no progress nor incremental level is attained.Thus, year in year out, no progress nor incremental level is attained.

This can lead some Muslims to be resentful of the ‘fasting’ and otherThis can lead some Muslims to be resentful of the ‘fasting’ and other
devotions (devotions (‘IBADAH‘IBADAH ) in Ramadhan itself, being obsessed only to) in Ramadhan itself, being obsessed only to
chase after the ‘festivities’ and ‘light-up’ and ‘bazaar’ and thechase after the ‘festivities’ and ‘light-up’ and ‘bazaar’ and the
gatherings with celebrities and other ‘worldly’ attraction, etc.gatherings with celebrities and other ‘worldly’ attraction, etc.
Hypocrisy (Hypocrisy (NIFAQNIFAQ) may afflict this group whose criteria for liking) may afflict this group whose criteria for liking
RAMADHANRAMADHAN is the connection to the festival (is the connection to the festival (Hari RayaHari Raya). Their). Their
observance of fasting may be like as ‘prisoners’ undergoingobservance of fasting may be like as ‘prisoners’ undergoing
temporary incarceration; or one fasting with ‘vengeance’ bottling uptemporary incarceration; or one fasting with ‘vengeance’ bottling up
desires to be ‘desires to be ‘unleashedunleashed’ rather than to be effectively ‘’ rather than to be effectively ‘tamedtamed’.’.

Some of us may start our Ramadhan well since we may possessSome of us may start our Ramadhan well since we may possess

contrary to the spirit of Ramadhan itself.contrary to the spirit of Ramadhan itself.
Do not assume that what is done by Muslims, even by the majority,Do not assume that what is done by Muslims, even by the majority,
are automatically what Islam teaches. Such careless assumption mayare automatically what Islam teaches. Such careless assumption may
cause us to be distracted from achieving the true purpose ofcause us to be distracted from achieving the true purpose of

Especially in the last of Ramadhan, we can still amend ourselves or beEspecially in the last of Ramadhan, we can still amend ourselves or be

Allah’s intends for His mercy and forgiveness to reach all Muslims toAllah’s intends for His mercy and forgiveness to reach all Muslims to

Say, "O My servants who have transgressed againstSay, "O My servants who have transgressed against

of Allahof Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is
