SUB-HAANALLAHSUB-HAANALLAH
(Glory be the Most Exalted and Transcendent Allah)(Glory be the Most Exalted and Transcendent Allah)
Allah, in this verse clarify a principle in Islam, to refute theAllah, in this verse clarify a principle in Islam, to refute the
wrong notion which many people have regarding itswrong notion which many people have regarding its
commandments and teachings.commandments and teachings.
Mankind by nature is (Mankind by nature is (NAFSNAFS) self-centered, very attached to his) self-centered, very attached to his
desires (desires (HAWAHAWA’’). And ‘). And ‘AL-ISLAMAL-ISLAM’ essentially directs mankind to’ essentially directs mankind to
submit his will (and desire) to the will of Allah – much of whichsubmit his will (and desire) to the will of Allah – much of which
requires him to oppose his base desire for a higher good. Therefore,requires him to oppose his base desire for a higher good. Therefore,
without knowledge and appreciation of higher wisdom, manywithout knowledge and appreciation of higher wisdom, many

The term ‘The term ‘difficultdifficult’ originally meant “’ originally meant “something which is beyondsomething which is beyond
one’s capacity to doone’s capacity to do..” Yet, today people misuse this word and apply it” Yet, today people misuse this word and apply it
to things or practices which are to their opinion, to be extraneous,to things or practices which are to their opinion, to be extraneous,
cumbersome, troublesome, or disliked etc. whereas these are in factcumbersome, troublesome, or disliked etc. whereas these are in fact

Here, although focusing on fasting, it is a classic example for all HisHere, although focusing on fasting, it is a classic example for all His

general principle regarding all other Muslimsgeneral principle regarding all other Muslims ‘IBAADAH‘IBAADAH (formal(formal

If we honestly reflect, in RamaIf we honestly reflect, in Ramadhdhan it can be proven, for example. :an it can be proven, for example. :
How easy to wake up early; be engaged in night devotion withHow easy to wake up early; be engaged in night devotion with
passion; performing prayers in congregation and attending beneficialpassion; performing prayers in congregation and attending beneficial
gatherings; avoiding what may nullify our fast; increasing charity andgatherings; avoiding what may nullify our fast; increasing charity and

Although one has to overcome the initial ‘Although one has to overcome the initial ‘reluctance, laziness orreluctance, laziness or

The pillar of submission (The pillar of submission (ARKAA-N AL ISLAMARKAA-N AL ISLAM), are in fact essential), are in fact essential
building blocks to change, reform, mould and set us towards a truebuilding blocks to change, reform, mould and set us towards a true
disposition of one whose submission / obedience to Allah becomesdisposition of one whose submission / obedience to Allah becomes
consistently upheld (consistently upheld (ISTIQOMAHISTIQOMAH) with patience-constancy () with patience-constancy (AS-SwOBRAS-SwOBR).).

changing bad habits, the appropriate period of constant applicationchanging bad habits, the appropriate period of constant application
(practice) is vital. Human disposition ((practice) is vital. Human disposition (AKHLAQAKHLAQ) can be changed with) can be changed with

As in the month of RamaAs in the month of Ramadhdhan, the proof of this principle in self-an, the proof of this principle in self-
reform is annually demonstrated, not just as exception, individually, butreform is annually demonstrated, not just as exception, individually, but

It is Allah’s guidance, with many blessings, bestowals and favoursIt is Allah’s guidance, with many blessings, bestowals and favours
from Him which ought to be experienced, reflected upon andfrom Him which ought to be experienced, reflected upon and
appreciated. The Ramaappreciated. The Ramadhdhan experience thenceforth become as proof, aan experience thenceforth become as proof, a

Muslims then becomes as the Divinely-guided community for otherMuslims then becomes as the Divinely-guided community for other

True Muslims’ submission and obedience to Allah is as gratefulTrue Muslims’ submission and obedience to Allah is as grateful
servants (‘servants (‘ABDAN SHAKUURAABDAN SHAKUURA). In fact this virtue (). In fact this virtue (SHAKURSHAKUR) differentiate:) differentiate:
Muslim who is a Believer (Muslim who is a Believer (MU’MEENMU’MEEN) from one who, although Muslim) from one who, although Muslim
yet he may be a hypocrite (yet he may be a hypocrite (MUNAFEEQMUNAFEEQ););
…… between those Muslims who have successfully freed themselvesbetween those Muslims who have successfully freed themselves
from their desires (from their desires (HAWA’HAWA’) with those who are still enslaved by them;) with those who are still enslaved by them;
…… between the truly ‘reformed’ from those still adamant to remain inbetween the truly ‘reformed’ from those still adamant to remain in

Therefore be reminded that theTherefore be reminded that the EID-UL-FITR’EID-UL-FITR’ is to be celebrated :is to be celebrated :
 with a sense of ‘with a sense of ‘gratitudegratitude’ not ‘’ not ‘reliefrelief’;’;
 as ‘as ‘repentantrepentant’ servants not ‘’ servants not ‘escaped prisonersescaped prisoners’;’;
 as united global community committed in purpose of attestation to theas united global community committed in purpose of attestation to the
Oneness of God (Oneness of God (TAUTAUHHEEDEED) bound into the true brotherhood of) bound into the true brotherhood of
mankind (mankind (INSAANINSAAN), although multi-ethnic yet committed to serve Him;), although multi-ethnic yet committed to serve Him;
 A community although imperfect with many shortcomings, seeks to gainA community although imperfect with many shortcomings, seeks to gain
perfection and indeed can and is determined to gain with striving, onlyperfection and indeed can and is determined to gain with striving, only
by abiding to and conforming with the perfected teachings of Allah andby abiding to and conforming with the perfected teachings of Allah and
His Messenger s.a.w. (His Messenger s.a.w. (DEEN-UL-KAAMILDEEN-UL-KAAMIL).).
