Old Major's commandments established equality among all animals and prohibited clothes, beds, alcohol, and killing other animals. The animals worked together without human help to run the farm. Napoleon later revised the commandments to put some animals above others, representing the pigs' similar control over the animals to how humans once controlled them, taking away their freedom.
