

Behaviorism is the prediction and control of
human behavior in which introspection
and/or independent thinking play no
essential part of its teaching methods.
Positive and Negative Reinforcements






Scientist who won the
Nobel Prize in
Physiology in 1904.
He was famous for his
behavioral experiments
with dogs.
Pavlov used classic
conditioning to teach
dogs to salivate when a
bell was rung.








Described what is known as behavioral or
operant conditioning.
Skinner was known for the experiments he
conducted with pigeons.
In these experiments he would reward the
pigeons when they were seen behaving or
acting in a certain, desired way. Using this
method he even taught pigeons how to
“dance.”





Was famous for the Social Cognitive Theory.
Bandura believed people acquire behaviors
first from observing then from imitating.
He also focused on the concept of selfefficacy, which is a personal observation
about one’s own perceived ability to think,
feel, and motivate themselves to learn




Edward Thorndike (1874-1949)

-Famous for his work done on learning
theory that lead to the development of
operant conditioning.


Award students using positive reinforcements
◦ Examples: good grades, candy, or even extra points



Punish students using negative
reinforcements
◦ Examples: detention, minus points, or even calling
of parents.


We will use this in our teaching because it is
the way that everyone is brought up in school
now a days. It’s all about the motivation.
