2. s ’il te plaît,
Grand-père,
raconte-moi
une histoire de
petites bêtes,
demanda
Tristan.
Tristan
s’installa
confortablement
dans son lit pour
écouter l’histoire
d’Isabelle la
coccinelle.
Oh, mon bel astre
qui luit…
—k—
G randpa, please tell me a bedtime story about the insect
friends, little Tristan asked.
Tristan settled down to hear grandfather’s story about
Lincoln the ladybug.
– Late one night, a group of insect friends gathered together,
Grandpa Jake began.
– Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are!
Lincoln sang, staring up at the stars.
18
3. – Comme un diamant
dans la nuit, poursuivit
Guillerelle, la sauterelle.
—k—
– Up above the world
so high, Wallace the stick
insect joined in, like a
diamond in the sky.
19
Guillerelle.
—k—
Lincoln and Wallace finished the
song and were silent. The air was
very still. They heard the stream and
the wind in the trees. They heard
crickets chirping, owls hooting, frogs
croaking, and raccoons looking for
food. Lincoln and Wallace listened
to the night sounds and watched
the fireflies.
– I wish I could write a
lullaby, Lincoln sighed. I love
singing.
– You might write a
beautiful song, Wallace said.
20
5. – Peut-être, répondit
Isabelle. J’y songerai.
Guillerelle ne tarda pas à Je
s’endormir. Mais Isabelle resta devrais
éveillée, toute excitée à l’idée de m’y essayer,
ce nouveau projet. se dit-elle.
—k— Mais je ne suis
pas du tout sûre
– Maybe, Lincoln said. I’ll
de pouvoir le faire.
think about it.
Sur cette pensée,
Wallace was soon asleep.
elle s’endormit.
Lincoln stayed awake
thinking about writing a —k—
lullaby. I should try,
But what if I can’t
do it?
He thought
until he too
fell asleep.
21
—k—
The next day Lincoln decided to try songwriting.
What should I write it about?—A star? He shook his head.
The night animals? He disliked the idea. Night sounds?
Oudom was distressed. I don’t know what to write my lullaby
about. How can I start?
22
7. Découragée, frustrée, elle soupira :
– Je ne serai jamais bonne à rien. Comment
ai-je pu me lancer dans pareille entreprise ?
—k—
Discouraged and frustrated, he sighed.
– I’ll never be good at
anything! I shouldn’t
have even tried.
23
8. Juste à ce
moment-là, Guillerelle apparut :
– Je te cherchais. Qu’est-ce qui ne
va pas ? Tu as l’air triste.
24
9. Just then Wallace came by and
said,
– I’ve been looking for you. What’s wrong?
You look sad.
Lincoln sighed again.
– Something is wrong, he said. I decided to
write the song today.
– I’m sure it will be great! Wallace smiled.
Lincoln frowned.
– I tried, but I can’t do it!
– Don’t give up, his friend said. Sometimes
you have to try many times until you get it right.
– I won’t be able to write a lullaby, ever!
Lincoln said sadly.
25
Ensemble, on y arrivera,
avec l’aide de Dieu.
Isabelle sourit.
—k—
Wallace thought for a minute, and then said:
– Did you pray and ask God to help you?
Lincoln shook his head.
– I’m sure He’d help you, Wallace said. Then, if you want, I
could help you too. We can do it together with God’s help.
Lincoln smiled.
26
11. – Tu es une amie géniale, Guillerelle.
– Allons-y !
Isabelle.
luciole.
—k—
– You’re a great friend, Wallace.
– Come on! Let’s start. God,
please show us what to write this
song about, Wallace prayed, and
give us the words for it. Also, help
us not to give up.
Amen.
– What if we
wrote it about
nighttime sounds?
asked Lincoln.
– I like that!
We could
sing it for
Drudy, Bits the
bee, and Fiery!
27
12. Isabelle acquiesça.
Les paroles et la mélodie
ne tardèrent pas à leur venir à
l’esprit. Elles n’hésitèrent pas à
demander à Dieu de les aider
chaque fois que l’inspiration
leur faisait défaut, et Il n’y
manquait jamais. Très vite, leur
berceuse prit forme.
—k—
Lincoln nodded.
Soon the words and tune
to the lullaby started coming.
When Wallace and Lincoln got
stuck, they would ask God to
help them, and He did. They
soon had their lullaby.
28
13. Et cette
nuit-là,
Isabelle et
Guillerelle la
chantèrent à
leurs amis.
– C’est magnifique !
s’exclama Mireille. J’aimerais
bien l’apprendre.
– Moi aussi ! s’écria Lucie.
Isabelle était aux anges !
—k—
That night Lincoln and
Wallace sang their lullaby for
their friends.
– That was
beautiful!
exclaimed Bits. I’d
like to learn it.
– Me too! said Fiery.
Lincoln was so
happy!
29
14. Après l’histoire, Tristan fit
savoir à Grand-père qu’il aimerait,
lui aussi, écrire une chanson.
– Bien sûr ! répondit Grand-
père. Mais souviens-toi des leçons
apprises par les petites bêtes : ne
te décourage jamais et n’oublie pas
de demander à Dieu de t’aider.
Alors Grand-père chanta la
berceuse d’Isabelle. Tristan sourit
et bailla longuement.
—k—
Tristan told Grandpa that he
would also like to write a song.
– Sure! Grandpa Jake
answered. And we can
remember the lessons about
not giving up and asking God to
help.
Tristan smiled and
yawned as Grandpa sang
Lincoln’s lullaby to him.
30
15. La Berceuse d’Isabelle
Lorsque tombe la nuit,
Et que les étoiles sortent,
J’aime écouter les bruits
Que la nuit nous apporte.
Chut ! Écoutez la chanson
Des grenouilles et des grillons,
Le doux murmure du vent,
Et les étranges bruissements.
—k—
A Nighttime Lullaby
When darkness covers the sky,
And stars twinkle up on high,
I love to listen to all the sounds,
That nighttime brings around.
I hear the crickets’ song;
The frogs also sing along.
Shhh, I can hear the breeze,
Rustling the grass and leaves.

16. Morale
Si quelque chose te paraît difficile
à faire, ou même impossible,
persévère. Demande à Dieu de
t’aider, et Il t’aidera.
Moral
Keep trying, no matter how difficult
or impossible something may seem.
If you ask God to help you, He will.
