Mark Halsey: New Executive Director of the University System of Maryland Hagerstown
Mark Halsey began as the new Executive Director of the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (USMH) this past May. Mr. Halsey is charged with leading the Hagerstown center to continue to meet the needs of students in the region by broadening existing programs, developing new programs and maintaining and expanding relations with area community colleges.

• City is paying for renovation build-out and will
be the landlord
• USMH paying upfront cost of technology:
fiber optic cable, installing wireless web,

• About $13.5 million in State of Maryland funds
originally invested in USMH after the City’s gift of
the old Baldwin hotel building
• Scholarships always seen as vital to facilitate
access to Higher Education. The Waltersdorf-
Henson Challenge Grant raised over $500,000.
• Since then, private foundations have been
solicited, and the annual Feaste & Frolic
fundraising gala adds to scholarship resources
