Learning Expedition Paris 2015
1. ART & HEART in Facilitation
Beyond language
The learning expedition is organized by IAF-Paris and IAF-Europe and will
be held at various locations in Paris.
It starts July 3rd, 9 and ends July 4th, 17:30
2. Day 1 : From authority to interaction in Art
9h : Welcome at the Pyramid du Louvre
Art as a way to show heart
Artists have always been facilitators. This was never more true than in
California in the 1970s, when artists and organizational development
people co-invented facilitation...
Guided visit of Louvre Paintings
Art as Pedagogy
It all begins with art as a kind of pedagogy, artists using various artistic
languages, in this case visual, to teach in cultures where many or most
people are illiterate.
We will explore group dynamics in paintings at the Louvre and how they
used visual language to create a meaningful and moving teaching
experience.
Lunch with Buren
Guided visit of Beaubourg Paintings
Art as a conversation
Starting with the Surrealists, artists became more aware of the
"spectator" as an integral part of their art, moving through Pop Art,
Minimalist art, Conceptualist art, then installation art, not to mention many
other post-modern art movements. We can find much inspiration on
using space, time, and objects to enhance involvement in facilitation by
experiencing the emotional and conceptual sides of modern and
contemporary art.

3. Day 2 : From Performance to collaboration
9h : Mime and Eurythmics
Art as a Performance
Performance art is as ancient as any other art, rooted in human pre-
history. Dance, theater, mime, "happenings", music are all part of
what makes us humans tick and experience connectedness. We will
be exploring the nature of mimesis in mime and how dance can give a
more embodied dimension to our work as facilitators.
Lunch in a Parisien Bistrot
Art installation at OpenMindkfé
Art as Collaboration
Is this the future of art? Much contemporary art is certainly a closed
book to most people, when it is not a pure exercise in making as much
money as possible by working a closed system that is completely
interconnected but extremely isolated. Fortunately, there are
exceptions! We will be exploring something that is not so much
completely new as perhaps a return to the past to renew the future?
In any case, we will certainly have fun creating something together.
