Before I get started, let me tell you a little about Jefferson County Public Health and what we do to improve health in the county. Public health is the prevention of disease, disability and premature death among the entire population. We look at the source or root causes of illness and injury in our communities, including the health impacts of personal health behaviors and environmental threats and we attempt to address them.
Most health care workers focus on an individual patient and are concerned with treatment. Public Health focuses on a community and is concerned with prevention. Where we live matters to our health. Public health improves a community’s health through programs and policies. Public Health Is . . .
Public health is everyday, everywhere, everyone because public health services are what make it possible for all of us to live, work and play together in relative health and safety.
