Hi I’m Robyn from MarketSmartly. We are keen users of LinkedIn, which we use to generate business for ourselves and our clients. We focus on ROI marketing, so we want to be able to leverage the opportunities and measure our results. We find LinkedIn as a great tool for that.Show of hands: Who here is on LinkedIn?We’ve found there are four types of users:
Serious: Using it to generate business and referrals on at least a monthly if not daily/weekly basis.Casual: On it because everyone else is on it, it’s a new platform they thought they’d try, may have generated some business but more likely through luck than good managementSeriously confused: Have a profile but have no idea what to do with it or the various invitations to connect. No Go Zone: Haven’t touched it yet or not even aware of it perhaps. With a group like this we may have a range of people. Show of hands so I can get to understand whose in the room and perhaps tailor my talk a little.Serious – Casual – Seriously Confused – No GosIt doesn’t matter where you’re at, hopefully I’ve covered the range so you get at least one valuable insight from this session.
Why would you use LinkedIn?Comments from the floorI’m a marketer, when I look at LinkedIn I see a huge database of potential referral partners, prospects, suppliers, knowledge…You all network (because you’re here) – a great reason to use LinkedIn is to leverage this type of networking opportunity.LinkedIn will save you hours and dollars – eg network – 5 coffee appointments – at least 5-8 hours plus travel time/cost/parking and coffee costs, and you may find out there is no mutual benefit.Use LinkedIn to do the ground work up front, identify the really warm/hot connections and meet with them. Takes approximately
Can you identify the same opportunities both ways?Possibly more while on LinkedIn as the conversations are more direct and focused. You can add value by introducing them to others in your network immediately. There are so many more benefits, but this is fairly universal.
These are some results of a recent poll… 12 July 2011.Of 204 respondents, 44% were making no business from LI= 56% were generating sales. The difference between those that do and those that don’t is simply an understanding of how powerful the tool is and how to use it strategically. My advice… learn how to use LI well! It can save a lot of time and money on other marketing. It’s a fantastic tool for positioning yourself, but we’ll talk more about that later. This poll was a great way for us to generate business. We don’t go into polls in this session, that’s more advanced and we cover that in the advanced workshop.
