This document discusses open educational resources (OER) and why time should be spent on them. It provides an overview of Swedish OER initiatives that will be showcased, including best practices and available online resources. OER are described as free course materials available under creative commons licenses for public access. Challenges of engaging with OER include the time required without obvious rewards, issues of quality, legal and technical challenges, and economic factors. However, reasons to engage with OER include sharing knowledge, enhancing education, supporting lifelong learning, capacity building, and acting for the public good. Stages of OER engagement are presented as a ladder. Examples of Swedish OER initiatives and resources are provided. The document ends with discussions
