This document defines and describes different types of animation. It explains that animation brings images to life by displaying a sequence of static images rapidly to create the illusion of continuous movement. The three basic types are traditional animation which uses hand-drawn images, stop animation which manipulates real-world objects frame by frame, and computer animation which can be 2D or 3D. 2D computer animation uses techniques like PowerPoint or Flash while 3D animation is used for films, simulations, and complex or unusual scenes. Computer animation is commonly used in films, video games, simulations, and architectural models.
2. ANIMATION
The word “animation” is a for
m
of “animate,” which means
to bring to life. Thus when
a multimedia developer
wants to bring an image
to life, animation is used.
3. DEFINITIONS
Animation is the creation of moving
pictures one frame at a time.
In the abstract, an animation is a
continuous, time-varying image.
In practice, it is a sequence of static
images displayed in succession so rapidly
that it looks continuous.
4. TYPES OF ANIMATION
There are three basic types of animation:
Traditional
Stop Animation
Computer Animation
2D Animation
3D Animation
5. TRADITIONAL
Traditional animation (also called cel
animation or hand-drawn animation)
was the process used for most
animated films of the 20th century.
The individual frames of a traditionally animated
film are photographs of drawings, which are first
drawn on paper. To create the illusion of
movement, each drawing differs slightly from the
one before it.
6. STOP MOTION
Stop-motion animation is used to
describe animation created by
physically manipulating real-world
objects and photographing them one
frame of film at a time to create the
illusion of movement.
Stop animation or stop motion
animation is a technique to make
objects move on their own. Here, a
few images are drawn with some
different positions and photographed
separately.
7. 2D ANIMATION
It is used through PowerPoint and
Flash animations. Though its features
are similar to cel animation, 2D
animation has become popular due to
simple application of scanned drawings
into the computer like in a cartoon film.
8. 3D ANIMATION
It is used in film making
where we require unusual objects
or characters that are not easy to
display. Use of 3D animation can
create a crowd of people in a
disaster like earthquake, flood or
war.
9. WHERE THE ANIMATION IS USED?
Computer animation is used for many things like
film, Flight simulation, Science, and art. Film is a
favorite use of computer animation. Movies such
as “Terminator Two”, “Jurassic Park”, and “Abyss”
use computer animation. It is used in for lot’s of
things in architecture like making models houses
so that their clients can take a virtual tour.
Computer animation is also used in creating
three dimensional video games.
