2. Sorolla Early Life Born February 1863 in Valencia, Spain (Died August 10th, 1923, age 60) Raised by his uncle and aunt Parents died when he was 2 His uncle tired to teach him the art of being a locksmith but he was more passionate about art. Enrolled himself in after school drawing classes at age 11 At age 16 entered into Vacenia’sEscuela Superior de BellasArtes de San Carlos and proceded to develop his artistic talents.
3. Start of His Life as an Artist At age 18 moved to Madrid. Started to study master paintings in the Museo del Prado. At age 22 obtained a grant which enabled him to go to Rome, Italy to study paintings. In 1885 went to Paris and got his first exposure to modern paintings. Married in 1888, had three children by 1895. They moved to Madrid where he focused mainly on the production of large canvas paintings.
4. Historical Period During the early 20th century war was advancing and technologies were advancing also. This caused more powerful nations in the war and the start of World War One in 1914. Paris was the artistic capital of the world. Culture spread rapidly over the world through movies, fashion trends, and music. Modern architecture took over the decoration of the4 Victorian era.
5. Pictorial Movement Influenced by impressionism. Fused impressionism with his classical art training. He had a very joyous style and was able to play light over the bright surfaces of things. Most of his paintings are of people in sunny places like of his native Valencia, Spain. He is able to use colors in a way that makes them look so natural and real to each other.
