SSC SI, CAPF ASI Exam 2015: Tips and Strategy: General
Knowledge and General Awareness
The Staff Selection Commission of India has decided to recruit in SI and ASI posts for CAPF
(Central Armed Police Force), Delhi Police and CISF. For the same, SSC is going to take written
examinations on June 21, 2015.
The General Knowledge and General Awareness is part of the Paper I that is going to be the
foundation paper of the examination. This paper generally consists of four subjects namely-
General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative
Aptitude and English Comprehension. The subject general awareness, as the name suggests, tests
the overall knowledge of the immediate surroundings of the candidates. They are expected to be
aware of all the recent ongoing that has certain national or international importance. This paper
allows the recruiters to judge the connection of the candidates with that of the outer world and
their understanding of the society. Along with Paper I there is another paper in the written
examination. Paper II consists of mainly questions related to English Language understanding
and comprehension. The questions are multiple choice ones and carry negative markings on
wrong evaluation. The questions in Paper I are asked both in English and Hindi for the better
understanding of the candidates.
Tips and Strategies
 Keep your eyes and ears open: The paper demands thorough knowledge of the
immediate surroundings of the candidates. They are expected to know every major detail
of their nation and important news from the neighboring countries as well. In order to
keep all these information intact, the candidates need to rigorously go through any of the
educational information they get from any of the available sources. They need to keep
searching of news of prominence and always keep an eye on the important ongoing
events of national and international importance.
 Develop a reading habit: If you are about to give the examination and fear reading, then
you must change your habit as early as possible. The written test would need you to be on
your tip of studying and reading. You need to keep an eye on every possible source of
information and develop a reading habit. You need to go through newspapers and current
affair magazines regularly and filter out information of importance.
 Get help from Internet: Internet now-a-days has anything and everything just a click
away. You could find any sort of information through search engines, provided you have
feed the right keywords to the engine. You could also get stacked or listed news items of
importance for a certain period available online. There would be questions related to
History, Culture, Geography, Economy of the country and General politics to name a
few. You should also have a good idea about the Indian Constitution and be aware of the
recent changes that are taking place in form of amendments.
 Make a list of important topics: There are thousands of topics that could draw your
interest and makes news, but it is impossible to remember every detail of all of them.

Hence, the candidates need to apply some smart tricks to boil down the data to make it
digestible. They should make a list of important topics (based on previous year questions,
importance of news and impact of the event) and revise the same till they remember the
facts by heart. There are questions that are asked related to scientific researchs and
significant development in the field of nations security and defense. Significant awardees
and notable authors also recur in exams and thus needed to be remembered as well.
 Answer confidently: It is often noted that during examinations, candidates tend to leave
a question despite knowing the answer very well. They tend to get nervous while
answering a particular question, due to the options that are present with the question.
Once, you read the question you must suddenly remember what have you read before
even seeing the option. This could help you get your answer without getting confused
with numbers and dates in the options.
SSC SI, CAPF ASI Exam 2015: Tips and Strategy: General
Intelligence and Reasoning
To recruit aspiring candidates in various posts of Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police & Central Armed
Police Force (CAPF) and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in CISF, the Staff Selection commission
has announced dates for written examination. The examination is scheduled to take place on June
21, 2015 and would be conducted nationwide in various centres. The candidates who have
applied for the posts are gearing up for the written examination, passing which would land them
to physical endurance test. This test would be the final roadblock for the candidates and it is a
necessary test in part of every candidate. This would allow the candidate to finally secure their
positions as SI or ASI officers.
The pattern of examination is quite similar to that of most of the other competitive examinations.
The written test contains two major papers. The total marks that these two papers contain are 400
and to solve the same the candidates get a time of 4 hours. The first paper consists of subjects
namely General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness,
Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. All these subjects carry 50 marks each with
maximum 50 questions to be solved. Paper I and Paper II examinations would take place
simultaneously in the same examination hall. The Paper II consists of English Language and
Comprehension questions. Both the papers have Multiple Choice Questions and carries negative
marking on wrong evaluation in part of the candidate. The candidates need to pass individually
in both the papers and score the required cut-off mark to move through to the physical endurance
test and medical round.
Tips and Strategies
 Master the tricks: Reasoning is all about tricks and methods. This subject is in itself
there to judge the reasoning ability and mental strength of a candidate. It is thus expected
from the candidates to analyze a given problem with adequate reasons and in order to do
that the candidate might need to spend adequate time in getting to the core of the
problem. There would be questions related to similarities and differences, space
visualizations, spatial orientation figural classifications, Venn Diagrams and

drawing operations to test your visual memory. The more you practice these questions
the more you would discover tricks to solve them in lesser time.
 Follow Previous Question Papers and Mock Questions: Following well-articulated
books in which you could find all kinds of reasoning related problems ranging from
Semantic analogy to that of coding and decoding could help the candidates immensely.
There are questions related to semantic classification, number series, word building,
numeral operations, and symbolic operations to enhance critical thinking in the
candidates. Try and figure out the best books available in the market and start following
them. You should get previous year question papers, solving which would give you the
required confidence. Solving the mock question papers would give you the exact clock
time that you are ticking and you can improve it by practicing regularly.
 Play mind games: Reasoning and General Intelligence paper is there to test the presence
of mind of the candidates and their ability to adapt a particular question to their own
understanding. A sharp mind plays an important role in this subject. There are questions
that are related to figural pattern folding and completion, indexing of address
matching and coding-decoding of small & capital letters/numbers, for which the
candidates need to develop a certain emotional intelligence as well as social intelligence.
It is recommended to play mind games regularly besides preparing for the examination.
Chess, Scramble, Sudoku, Crosswords and many other games are easily available
which sharpens your brains capacity, which in turn can help make your understanding
better.
 Beat the time: You need to be double sure that the time you set for your papers don’t get
overlapped with the others. If this happens you might risk your entire paper and
ultimately result to a complete failure in the examination. The best way to make the
balance is to set a time for each of the subjects and work out accordingly. If you couldn’t
finish this subject on time, move on to the other subject which you think you have a good
grip on. You can always manage the time, but in order to do so effectively in the
examination centre, you need to first master it in your home by practicing.
 Be doubly sure while answering: The written examination has negative markings for
every wrong evaluation. Thus, you need to be fully sure while answering any of the
questions. This can make or break your chances in a particular subject and if you are not
sure about any of the question, just focus your energy and time on some other. There
would always be time to look back at the questions that you think you might be able to
pull off but are not sure about. Keep them for the end and answer those you are sure
about at the beginning.
SSC SI, CAPF ASI Exam 2015: Tips and Strategy:
Quantitative Aptitude
Candidates, who are interested in government jobs and are preparing themselves for long, have
now something to cheer about. The Staff Selection Commission has announced about its
recruitment for SI and ASI post in CAPF (Central Armed Police Force), Delhi Police and CISF.
These posts would be filled after the due process of written examination and physical endurance
test of the selected candidates. The written examination is scheduled to take place on 21st

2015 and those candidates who have applied for the examinations should start preparing
themselves for the written examinations.
Tips and Strategies
 Make your choices wisely while in the examination centre: Most of the candidates fail
to judge the questions that they should attempt and those which they left outright. Due to
this lack of judgment they lose their precious time which results in failure. It is thus
important to make decisions spontaneously about which questions to attempt and which
not. The quantitative aptitude subject mostly has questions which seem to take quite a lot
of time of the candidates. There are questions that are relatively easier and deal with
circles, triangles, cones and other geometrical and trigonometric shapes. On the other
hand there are questions such as mixture and allegation, graphs of linear equation,
tangents and other trigonometric ratios which are quite time consuming. The
candidates need to make their decision over these questions and decide which to attempt
first and which to left for later. These decisions make or break your chances while you
are undergoing your written examination.
 Get your basics right: There are questions related to numbers, decimals, percentage,
ratio and proportion, square roots, algebra and basic algebraic identities asked in the
subject. Hence, the first and foremost task for any aspiring candidate should be to revisit
their basic mathematic skills once again. The questions asked in the examination would
be broadly based on simple arithmetic operations and trigonometric compulsions. Hence,
getting your basics right could ultimately help you score well in the examination.
 Device your own techniques: It is always helpful to device your own techniques for
solving a sum. This, on one hand allows you to save enormous amount of time while you
are going through the mammoth task of completing 50 odd quantitative questions in less
than an hours’ time, and on the other hand makes you confident enough to select the
answer from the multiple choices. Techniques related to solving problems related to time
and distance, measuring averages and taking out interest and profit & losses are most
common ones to develop and discover among the candidates.
 Keep your clocks ticking: While you prepare yourself for the examination, keep one
thing in mind that you need to answer almost 200 questions in less than 2 hours’ time.
Hence, you must prepare according to the time norms and always keep a timer beside you
while you prepare for exams. You should set a time limit in your stopwatch and begin
practicing model question sets and previous year question papers. You would come to
know whether your speed of solving sums is in tandem with the time that you are about
to get for the examinations or you have to work real hard to achieve the same. This could
immensely boost your confidence as well and make you aware of your shortfalls and
strong areas at the same time.
 Follow the question pattern: There are many books and competitive journals available
in the market which gives a proper idea about the structure of the questions that are going
to come in the examination. Having this idea is quite important and thus following
previous year questions and tracing the question patterns becomes very important. The
candidates could check the questions recurring year after years in the examination. The
chances of getting similar questions remain high and this could help them score more
after the written exams get over.

Due to this lack of judgment they lose their precious time which results in failure. It is thus important to make decisions spontaneously about which questions to attempt and which not. The quantitative aptitude subject mostly has questions which seem to take quite a lot of time of the candidates. There are questions that are relatively easier and deal with circles, triangles, cones and other geometrical and trigonometric shapes. On the other hand there are questions such as mixture and allegation, graphs of linear equation, tangents and other trigonometric ratios which are quite time consuming. The candidates need to make their decision over these questions and decide which to attempt first and which to left for later. These decisions make or break your chances while you are undergoing your written examination.  Get your basics right: There are questions related to numbers, decimals, percentage, ratio and proportion, square roots, algebra and basic algebraic identities asked in the subject. Hence, the first and foremost task for any aspiring candidate should be to revisit their basic mathematic skills once again. The questions asked in the examination would be broadly based on simple arithmetic operations and trigonometric compulsions. Hence, getting your basics right could ultimately help you score well in the examination.  Device your own techniques: It is always helpful to device your own techniques for solving a sum. This, on one hand allows you to save enormous amount of time while you are going through the mammoth task of completing 50 odd quantitative questions in less than an hours’ time, and on the other hand makes you confident enough to select the answer from the multiple choices. Techniques related to solving problems related to time and distance, measuring averages and taking out interest and profit & losses are most common ones to develop and discover among the candidates.  Keep your clocks ticking: While you prepare yourself for the examination, keep one thing in mind that you need to answer almost 200 questions in less than 2 hours’ time. Hence, you must prepare according to the time norms and always keep a timer beside you while you prepare for exams. You should set a time limit in your stopwatch and begin practicing model question sets and previous year question papers. You would come to know whether your speed of solving sums is in tandem with the time that you are about to get for the examinations or you have to work real hard to achieve the same. This could immensely boost your confidence as well and make you aware of your shortfalls and strong areas at the same time.  Follow the question pattern: There are many books and competitive journals available in the market which gives a proper idea about the structure of the questions that are going to come in the examination. Having this idea is quite important and thus following previous year questions and tracing the question patterns becomes very important. The candidates could check the questions recurring year after years in the examination. The chances of getting similar questions remain high and this could help them score more after the written exams get over.
