Classroom Management Amani Madihah Mooi Qin Munawwarah
Task 4 What aspect of classroom management are important to you? Specify 10 rules which will form a consistent part of your classroom practice.
1. Teacher’s Approaches The ability for teachers to organize classroom and manage the behavior of student is critical to achieve positive educational outcomes Thus, the approaches from the teacher plays a vital role in order to take control of the classroom and gain the respect from the pupils.
Earn pupil’s trust Be a mentor not a friend and earn the children's trust by being firm, fair and consistent. Be a person whom they can trust and come to for help. Show that you care about them. Pupils will feel special because you have taken some of your time to speak to them.
Praise and encourage good behavior Never ever, ever use destructive criticism. increasing your pupils' self-esteem through praises and encouragement. Rewarding- verbal or written praise, a positive note to take home to parents, a star on the work, etc.
Interesting teaching style Just standing there talking at the board is not going to interest many children anyway Miss the children who mainly learn from tactile and kinesthetic experience. Use variety of classroom games (auditory, visual, kinesthetic and tactile skills) to engage the pupils with the activities.
2. BehaviourManagement B.F. Skinner - we can manipulate behavior by first identifying what the individual finds rewarding. Carl Rogers - in-order to effectively address behavior problems, we must first get the individual to want to behave appropriately.
Assertive Discipline Teacher controls their classroom in a firm but positive manner. The approach maintains that teachers must establish rules and directions that clearly define the limits of acceptable and unacceptable student behavior.
Preventative Techniques Mutual respect between teacher and student. Strategic use of praise and rewards to inform students about their behavior rather than as a means of controlling student behavior.
3. Classroom Environment A place where children feel comfortable with themselves, safe amongst their peers and motivated to learn. Safety – keep out of dangerous object, laboratory. Cleanliness and attractiveness- decorations. Good relationship among peers- no name-calling, ill manner, bullying
Safety Precautions Avoid hazardous substances in classroom. Safety box for emergency. No running in laboratories. Careful when handling with dangerous objects- scissors
Keep the classroom clean and tidy Duty rooster- ensure every pupil so their job Ensure the space used is warm and inviting for T&L process. No littering Give punishment to those who litter.
4. Time Management Kauchakand Eggen (2008) explain classroom management in terms of time management is to not only maintain order but to optimize student learning.
Plan your lesson plan in advance. Prepare your lesson earlier. Ensure every detail and equipments needed are prepared before T&L process Engage the pupil with meaningful and appropriate work within the time allocated for you.
Focus on important task Use time efficiently- focus on the main topic and aspect. Spend more time on meaningful activity- Q&A session
