Keep in mind that a perfect resume is sometimes not sufficient to get you to the stage of job interview. You must also have a perfect cover letter to escort your CV when you apply for any job.

1. Shows off your qualifications

2.  Purpose
 Express your intent, interest, and enthusiasm in position
 Complement and emphasize highlights of your resume
 Demonstrate your personality and writing ability

3.  Heading: Copy and paste your resume heading onto your
cover letter to create a “Matched Set”.
 Inside Address: Include the name of the person, job title,
company name and address. If faxing, include the fax number
or if emailing, include the email address.
 Greeting: Dear Ms.___, or Dear Mr. ___, and use the last
name followed by a comma. Current business etiquette
suggests not to use “Mrs.” or “Miss”. If you are unable to
obtain a last name, write Dear Human Resource Manager: or
Dear Hiring Manager:.

4. Body of Letter
 1st Paragraph: Identify the position and how you found out
about it.
 2nd Paragraph: Convince the employer that you fit the job
and the company – research the company.
 3rd Paragraph: Refer to a positive future by saying that you
look forward to hearing from that person soon to discuss possible
future opportunities.

5.  To close the letter write:
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to
hearing from you soon.
 Signature:
Use “Sincerely,” or “Sincerely yours,” drop 3 or 4 lines and type your
name. Remember to sign it if you are mailing or faxing your resume
packet!

7. Dear Ms. Smith.
I was interested to see your advertisement seeking a new account service executive as I have been seeking just such an
opportunity and believe my skills and experience would be a good match for XYZ Advertising.
Please find my resume enclosed for your perusal/review. Of particular relevance/interest is the five years I spent in a
advertising agency working in account service. I have a passion for client service and, as you will see from my
resume, a good understanding of the sector I would be working in.
I look forward to having an opportunity to meet with you to further discuss how I can contribute to your team.
